How about Vrana last night!!! 4G game. All at even strength. The only guy happier than Vrana last night had to be Steve Yzerman. You can argue that the trade would've been fair even if Mantha and Vrana were traded straight up with no extra picks thrown in.

Guess I'll be that guy, Sakic inherited a very good core already in Colorado. He just had to add complimentary players and has done a very good job at that.

Yzerman built Tampa into what they are now and has looked very good early in Detroit.

I looked it up, and Sakic inherited the job in 2013.
He's been responsible for adding Kadri, Grubauer, Burakovsky, Toews, Girard and drafted Makar, Mackinnon (it was first overall, but still), Byram (he got that pick through an absolute steal) just to name a few.
Who did he inherit besides Landy and Johnson that's still on the team?

Don't get me wrong, Yzerman has been excellent as well, but I fail to see how Sakic inherited his core, and Yzerman built his.

He might mean that the Avs had a decent team already with ROR, Duchene, Landeskog, Stastny, Johnson, Varlamov and more to begin with but then Detroit also had some decent names when Yzerman took over

I mean, they finished last the year before Sakic was brought in.
