Pass on Tyson Barrie, but you could probably get a 2nd from another team.

The Rakell trade is so pragmatic & reasonable...

It makes the Barrie trade look bonkers

I mean it's kinda that

Tbh

Why trade the 7th leading D scorer?

To clear cap for *oof* Brandon Sutter?

Why unload a very useful asset at the deadline

Minnesota's PP is absolutely brutal. You're kidding yourself if you don't think they need help. Barrie's a PP specialist

I wouldn't mind this plan if we're able to trade down in the draft a few times and stock up on 5th - 7th round picks. Sutter isn't an ideal 3C, but he's around 55% in the faceoff circle. Much better than our current bottom 6

That's all well and good, but Tyson Barrie is not going to fix the Wild's PP. He very likely won't even play the top unit, and Dumba and Spurgeon are already on the second unit. In any case, even if he were to help improve the PP, it's not worth Minnesota giving up a 2nd for.

Because the Wild's 6.9% PP doesn't need a shake up? That's historically bad. Whoever quarterbacks PP line 1 should be relieved of his duties lol

Barrie also sucks defensively. And who would he go over? Sure, he'd be an upgrade on the PP, but only for half a year. Giving up what will probably be a top 50 or so pick makes no sense.

And the upgrade on the PP isn't even a necessity with the bodies in the organization who can quarterback a PP

Give us a center. Give us a forward who can help on the PP. Cause Dumba and Spurgeon are fine as RHD on the PP. And as soon as next year, the Wild could have Menell or Addison there.

So no, Barrie doesn't have any value to Minnesota, especially long term

It's had multiple shakeups. Perhaps too many. Suter is currently the lone defenseman on the top unit, and he's good there. Since this latest shakeup, the PP has looked great, just hasn't scored one yet, but it's coming.

But again, it's not worth giving up a 2nd for a guy who would play bottom pair for most of the game. The value isn't there for a player who would be a luxury, not a necessity. And it's all pretty moot because we can't afford him anyway.

The PP is on the coaches, their personnel choices, and setups. They just gave up and ran normal lines for a few games. It's the void a center, not d-men that is killing the PP.

They are getting there: Parise, MarJo, Bonino, Bjugstad, and Spurgeon are all off or in diminished PP roles now. Now all they have to do is put Brodin on the top instead of Suter.

It’s one thing to trade away Barrie to open cap space but I’d certainly hope would spend it better. Rather keep Barrie for better or worse experience isn’t a bad thing down the stretch.

I'm not sure that's all they have to do. As good as Zuccarello has been at ES with Kaprizov, I'm not sure what he contributes in that spot on the PP. He's not a shooting threat, he's just passing it either back to Suter or down to Ek. Put Dumba there and I think you have something.

I want him far away, especially with the fans who will want to lock him up for a crippling deal when we have bouch ready for PP1 time

I've been on and off about Dumba there instead of Zucc. Zucc is a better passer but more of a playmaker not a shooter. Dumba hasn't been ready for passes, playing up a little to high, and has been hesitant to shoot.

I'd rather have a different setup for PP2 with Greenway/Foligno being heavy net front and let the Suter limp wrister and Dumba bombs create havoc. I guess have Rask out there too because his mistakes seem to turn into goals somehow.

Honestly the Wild have moved the puck around all year on the pp pretty well. I'm starting to think it's to predictable or to safe you know something philosophical not the execution. Maybe just start shooting more moving the puck less and get Greenway and Ek to try and plow pucks in.

The shooting more thing is exactly why I think the current top unit would benefit more from Dumba instead of Zuccarello. Zuccarello could also be the de facto set up guy on PP, which would probably help that unit quite a bit.

Dumba hasn't been shooting though, he's been trying to make the cross ice passes to Fiala. He did the same thing last year with Hunt.

He also hasn't been tried in that spot on the current PP yet, so you can't know if he'll shoot more or not.
