Larsson is a bad defenceman on a terrible defensive team. He's doesn't make a lot of teams. He's Bogosian making over 4 times his salary. Holl has been terrific this season. Saying otherwise means you haven't watched him.

Holl has looked fantastic so far this season. Dare I say he's been the best D on the Leafs' roster.

You underestimate:

a) How good Holl has been this year (and he was good last year too)
b) How bad Larsson has been this year
c) The fact that Larsson isn't even worth the second round pick, much less a guy who is pretty much similar in terms of value

Larsson is not a top 4 d-man on 90% of the teams in the league. He's not even one on his own team. The only reason he's playing top 4 minutes right now is cause Klefbom is out. Otherwise he'd be bottom pair. He doesn't use his size to his advantage, doesn't put up points, is a defensive liability, and he slowed down quite a bit over the last few years. He wouldn't even make Toronto's top 8.

You're overrating Larsson and underrating Holl. Holl has been a solid #4 guy this year, but he's not a legit top 4 yet. He moves the puck well, skates well and can play in his own end. At only $2M for 3 years he's much more valuable and better than Larsson. Wouldn't be shocked to see him a legit #4 guy before the end of the season.

The Larsson talks between Toronto and Edmonton were put to rest years ago. Larsson will sign with a bottom dwelling team this off-season to try to regain any value. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the KHL within 2-3 years.

No one who even pay attention to Larsson if it wasn't for the Hall trade. You must think Larsson has Hall "value". Sorry if you don't watch any Leaf games or any Oilers games, but if you do, you MUST know those trades are so lousy for the Leafs.

Then you haven't watched either player. Larsson has been outright bad for 3 seasons. Holl was good last year and has been terrific this season and makes less than half.

Edmonton doesn’t want another defensemen they will just play Bouchard if they lose confidence in Larsson. They have precious few draft picks to spare they aren’t going to trade them away for patchwork solutions. This season for Edmonton is about trying out a bunch of players and making due under their ridiculously mismanaged cap space until summer where they have flexibility to work. Larsson is off the books this summer.
