I think Detroit has too many players that need to see the ice to add a guy like byron. Maybe next offseason someone like this to add to the bottom 6 will make more sense.

The value is fair and it depends how much Detroit values the 3rd, but they have no space for Byron

    - With the number of moves made by Montreal this offseason if Byron wasn't wanted on the team he'd already be gone.
    - It's been reported many times that Byron's a great part of that locker room (Therefore a reason why he's wearing the "A" I guess).

Did Bergevin tell you that himself?

Cause I'm pretty sure no team is happy with a guy with a $3.4M cap hit playing MAYBE 4th line minutes, when they could easily give it to a guy like Frolik or Poehling to do the same job, and much cheaper.

In reality, it'll cost more to than a 3rd to move him. Marc Staal was just moved with a 2nd to clear $5.7M in cap space, but only $1M of real money. Byron has longer term (3 years) and more real money ($9.6M) left on his deal. For a team to take on that cap hit and real money for that term, it starts with a 2nd and a prospect. Something Montreal should considering doing considering next season they have about $16M in projected salary, and guys like Danualt, Kotkaniemi, Mete, Tatar, Armia, Lehkonen, Poehling, and Fleury all due for raises next season.

I get he might be a fan favourite, but you really wanna keep him and potentially lose any of those guys just listed over a guy that MIGHT play some 4th line and PK time? Comeon' now.

This is what I was thinking. Why pay to move Byron? He can still play and I can't see Montreal making this trade.

In addition to just listening to common sense, it has been said by Elliotte Friedman that the habs don’t have any interest in moving Byron.

And saying that Byron could be replaced by Frolík/Poehling is ludicrous. Byron is a 20 goal scorer (maybe 10-15 in limited minutes) who is as fast as anyone on the team, great defensively, and a great leader. Frolík is a glorified Dale Weise, basically a guy who won’t have much of an impact on anything when he’s on the ice and Poehling is not close to being good enough to play in the NHL.

And the reason he’s on the 4th line is because of the great depth the habs have at forward. I know you’re just jealous. Have fun with Joe Thornton and Jimmy Vesey in your top 6.

Ah the old "this team isn't interested in moving this player from the media".

Need I remind you of what Bergevin said about trading PK like the day before he traded him?..

What did Bergevin say the day before he traded Subban? He never once stated that Subban was untouchable.

I might be alone in this camp, but I would have zero interest in Byron, not just for the Wings, but if I was a GM of ANY team. If Montreal NEEDS to sell him and packages up a high asset as well, in exchange for taking him on, that's the only way I'd consider it. I definitely wouldn't give up any assets for him.

He is on the wrong side of 30, small, has injury concerns and carries a relatively hefty cap hit for a 4th liner, at best, for 3 more years.

Staal is actually owed 3.2M in salary as NYR paid his 1M signing bonus. Byron is also still a contributing asset maybe slightly overpaid. The real issue is we already have a bunch of depth guys signed.

My point is, don't believe what media tells you. In the right situation, anyone is moveable. & with Montreal needing cap space next offseason, now would be the time to cash in on any value the Byron has.

Ah yes, sorry got the 3 numbers mixed up. & the point with Byron is that he's a highly overpaid 4th liner at best. That negates almost all his value. When teams see that another team have a lot of up and coming players that can easily take his spot, they won't give full value for him because they know Montreal has to move him to open up roster spaces for other guys.

I see him as a decent 3rd liner but slightly overpaid as he can chip in roughly 20 goals and PK. If a second rounder was attached this would be a slam dunk as we would have openings after the season/post TDL and our impact rookies will be slightly sheltered with him in that role.

Oh sorry bud, I was off by a few days on something that happened almost 5 years ago. Sue me. Hahah

Bottom line, he said it wouldn't happen. Then traded him. So my I total point of saying don't believe what's said, is 100% accurate and all your comments are pointless.

It had nothing to do with it being off by a few days. He never said it wouldn't happen, but somehow you can't comprehend what words mean so your comments are pointless. He has never in his GM career lied about something.

GMs never say “untouchable”/“not trading” or “not shopping” in the way fans interpret. If Gretzky can be traded anyone can. GMs are there to make their franchise better so if a deal comes along that is in their value they’d pull the trigger even though that player isn’t on the block.

Pulled from an ESPN article interviewing MB of the date referenced earlier.

    Source: https://www.nhl.com/news/canadiens-gm-not-trying-to-trade-pk-subban/c-281032464

"Of course you never say never," he later said. "If somebody offered me half of their team, well, you know, you have to make it work. But it's not my intention."

Bergevin scoffed when he was asked what it would cost another team to acquire Subban.

"I don't even want to go there," he said.

It had nothing to do with it being off by a few days. He never said it wouldn't happen, but somehow you can't comprehend what words mean so your comments are pointless. He has never in his GM career lied about something.

Yes. Thank you for verifying my claim that he never lied.

I don't have to believe what I want. There are statements made that prove me right and you wrong.
