i love how they got faulk in case pietrangelo left but faulk was the reason pietrangelo left
Massive over-reaction to the way the negotiations had been going (or not) with Pietrangelo at that point by Army. It was an unnecessary move that needlessly jabbed Petro in the eye. We were fine on the right side. The only way the trade and sign made any sense was to replace Petro. That's the only way the guy could've taken it.
Armstrong is often a stone-cold GM. I think he prides himself on it. This is one situation with one special player he could've shown some humanity in the negotiations. Maybe it would've made a difference, maybe Petro isn't as rigid in his demands after that, maybe not. But acquiring Faulk definitely didn't help: in terms of cap dollars or in terms of respect to Petro. Faulk is now unfortunately villified by many Blues fans as the reason Petro isn't here, through no fault of his own.
We'll see how Faulk looks this year. But it could go down as the worst trade and worst contract Armstrong has ever done for the Blues. Not even just for Faulk not working out but for also what it cost us.
I refuse to believe that Armstrong was so certain that Pietrangelo wouldn't re-sign with the Blues that he felt he HAD to make a replacement move, RIGHT THEN.
