Marleau over Matthews.

Marleau is not a hhof talent. There's no possible argument for him over Mogilny, Turgeon, etc

Matthews and Johnson?

Rinne is as much in the conversation for the HHOF as price and Lundqvist.

Close to 600 goals and over 1200 points and the leading games played record in the NHL will get Patty 1st ballot HOF. Easily.

Backstrom's probably not going to make it. Getzlaf, Chara, and Zetterberg are all very likely to make it

I think it's tough because you have players that are not locks so it's kind of like a prediction like Mack, Matthews. Also Fleury and Backstrom are not what I would call locks.

I'd say for goalies there is a strong case (but not a lock) for Rask and Bobrovsky
You forgot to mention Chara. Josi is probably in too because of his Norris voting history and winning this year but then there is also Subban and Suter that have legitimate cases as well but I'd probably put them in the Burns tier as possible but not guaranteed.
For forwards I'd say Perry, Hall, and Draisaitl get in on the Hart trophy argument. You also have Getzlaf, Backstrom, Tavares, etc who may make it. Honestly Marchand has a case and so does Ryan O'Reilly. It can really change quickly because a guy like Benn (imo) would have been a lock if Dallas won and he continued playing well into the finals and won the Smythe

It's just too early in his career to say that yet. Lots of talented players fall off the cliff, get injured and can't return to what they used to be, etc. Most everyone else on this list has played enough, and achieved enough that if they never play again they would still get considered for the Hall. Matthews (and I'd argue MacKinnon too) haven't yet.

Rinne isn't in the same tier as Lundqvist. Honestly Lundqvist is underrated because of his lack of trophy case but he was kind of like Luongo where he was just ELITE for such a long time.

Price I think became slightly overrated because of the hart trophy win even though I'd still call him a lock.

Honestly Bobrovsky, Rask, Vasilevskiy, Holtby have better cases then Rinne

I mean I'm not saying he won't. I'm saying he isn't a HHOF talent. I'd put Eric Staal/Parise/Heatley/Spezza in before him. Marleau was never a top end talent

Backstrom isn't a lock but I'd also say he's at the same time a lock. He'll probably finish with 1000 assists.

Yeah but it's more about who's a lock not predictions because if Matthews quit today, he wouldn't. Yeah if his career is as expected he will but that's a big IF. Otherwise we can say that anyone who puts up a couple great seasons is a lock

I'd argue Rinne gets underrated because of the market he plays in, just like Price gets overrated because of where he plays.

I really don't see any of Bobrovsky, Rask, Vasilevskiy, Holtby being ahead of Rinne, or having much of a shot. Too many more deserving goalies like Barrasso, Cujo, Vernon, Tretiak that still haven't been recognized.

Heck I'd say Ziggy Palffy gets in the HOF, guy ended his short NHL career with nearly a .50 goals per game average and had a better than 1.+ point per game average.

If Kariya can get in so can Palffy.

As for Marleau, quite alot of HOF'ers only got in because of their longevity.

Most of them probably won't get in, honestly none of them have a case if Tim Thomas doesn't lol.

But Bobrovsky would be a lock with another Vezina imo.
Rask because of reputation/team success would probably be a lock with another Vezina or a cup
Vasilevskiy is just so damn young and already has a Vezina/cup so I can see him being a hhof
Holtby can if he becomes elite again and wins another Vezina probably

The problem with Rinne, imo, is that he's old so he doesn't have the chance to win anything to cement his legacy. I will admit he's underrated.

This is also based on awards which is a basic way of approaching it but probably the way they will gauge who makes it

Yeah I mean I can see him making it for sure because of his point totals and games played but realistically I'd choose Logan Couture before I chose Marleau.

Palffy was a great player that is forgotten. Kind of reminds me of Neely but Neely did make the HHOF

Jonathan Quick 100%

Jeff Carter MAYBE but probably not. I feel like if you have 3 stanley cup appearances and two of them victories and have over 700 career points you should be a lock, but what do I know.
