NTC has us trading our young stars

Description
It is still a very good team.

ACGM of other teams have all traded for our young RFA. No one waives their NTC so go w our older players and draft for the future.

CapFriendly has a calculator that allows you to see the tax differences if a player is traded from one team to to another. It is big... TB has many NTC, financially it is hard to think someone would waive.

Their calculator if a player made 5,250,000 in Tampa the equivalent in:
Toronto less 727,000 per year
NY less 426,000 per year
San Jose less 656,000 per year.

The only cities where the take home is the same are Dallas, FL, Vegas and Nashville. Vegas has cap issues so that is not realistic.

Rangers and Leafs would have make further deletions in the lineup to be cap compliant with these trades. Few teams have the cap to take on other high teams high priced RFAs, so I don't think the players "trade" value is the same as the "on ice" value.

What is Cernak's contract? Leafs may not be able to afford him. I would prefer to sign DeMelo cheaper and keep Liljegren and the pick

Sergachev will get an offer sheet above 6.4 probably..... NYR are going to be an amazing team this year, those are the most valuable picks. Habs should gun for him.

So if Capfriendly can figure this out, why won't the NHL create a cap that is NET of taxes? It's insane, on $1M, a Nashville player keep $622k and a Montreal player keeps $485k. That's nearly 14% difference. How are any Canadian teams ever supposed to compete for top talent in its prime? If you're talking about Taylor Hall and roughly $10M/year, that's $900k per season that he leaves on the table by coming to Canada. That's a heckuva disincentive.

Given that the majority of the NHL audience is still in Canada and a Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup since 1993, it might be time for Bettman and Daly to take a serious look at this.

Your offer is what Leafs fans want. He is worth a first and a prospect.

RFA, here people assume he is worth Carlo contract 3 million. Offer sheets I have seen much higher.

Cernak i see either taking (3 for 2, 3.5 for 3 or pesce deal 4 for 5).

So because Kapenan was moved we can afford him but Johnsson will just have to be moved.

I don't like the offside challenge but it is the rules. When it comes to endorsement money if you are in Toronto, Montreal, NY you will make a lot more then here in Tampa.

They'd take just a second-rounder for him? Because that's what $4M would get them on an offer sheet.

exactly, why would we overpay for him when Dubas can just offersheet him and only have to pay a 2021 2nd for him

They'll have time to make their caps work out before the season starts. I'm not worried about that aspect of it. We have a ton of places we can save money. Sergachev would be ideal for us.

With that said, I don't think we go after him in an offer sheet if at all.

CapFriendly just posts personal tax rates. Really PTR are kinda meaningless. In Canada, salaries can be incorporated and income for "entertainers" can be spread out over years. Also in Canada, taxes are based on residency not where you earned the income.
We never hear of NBA or MLB players complain about taxes in Canada...but for CapFriendly posters it seems to be a big deal.

I don't believe that is the case. Hockey players don't sell cars anymore.
