Fixed Leafs I Think

Créé par: McRanteskog
Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 15 août 2020
Publié: 15 août 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Leafs are tight against the cap but cannot go into next year without addressing defence.

Move Nylander for Klingberg to get top pairing RHD (and free up cap space).

Move Johansson for bottom 4 D Montour (cap neutral move).

With limited remaining cap space:
- resign Spezza
- bring in Nieto who is goI’d defensively and provides some offense
- nab Fast who’s got skill and offensive upside

you are short 3 players on your roster, Montour will probably be getting 4-5M and he's worth more than Johnsson

Yeah this team is screwed.
Maybe Sandin over Dermott saves cap.

Not that sure about Montour as most BUF AGMs are looking to get rid of him in most scenarios. Factor in he’s third pairing in BUF right now and cap is guaranteed flat for next two years, doubt he gets 5mil

As a Sabres fan, I’d pass
If a team wants Montour or Ristolainen...
i want a top6 forward
Otherwise I’ll keep them
Bc taking back a 3rd liner is just not good value for a top4 defenseman, especially a RH shot guy

Montour put up 18pts this year
So I’d say 4mil is the ceiling for a new deal for

It’s disingenuous to call Montour a “3rd pair” guy for us
He had the 2ND MOST ICETIME of all our defensemen

Sabres aren't trading a right shot d for Johnsson. He fills no need for the Sabres and would be a waste of an asset and cap space. Sabres will definitely qualify Montour. They also will definitely be moving a right shot d. If the return is very low for all of them then I would expect them to move Risto to clear the most cap space

Only the people who actually watch the Sabres play and not form their opinions from Buffalo News writers (Harrington) know how valuable Montour is.
He had the lowest +/- , and only Scandella had a better PDO among all skaters this past year.
last year in the 20 game stretch with the Sabres he had the most goals, most assists and lowest +/- of ALL defensemen.
Just because Krueger mis used him (along with Skinner, Vesey, Sheary, Rodrigues and Hutton do I need to offer any more proof) does not make him bad.
Johnsson is a bad target as he is a left handed LW and Buffalo only has 4 other LW who had more goals than he last year: Skinner, Olofsson, Johansson and Kahun.
BTW, if the Sabres let Montour walk and do not at least QO, I just may become a leafs fan, as this management will only prove their incompetence.
Buffalo may need to add but if I were the Buffalo GM and Dubas called me, I would target Kapanen.
I may need to add, but probably not a lot.
All GM's place value on players, one method to judge their value is their salary.
Kapanen and Montour are nearly equal, that often gives a clue on a young players value.
This measure is often skewed when one gets to be a UFA, but it is quit valid among RFA's.

No I don’t think you realize. It’s been rumoured already that Montour won’t be qualified. No one wants him. Certainly not someone the leafs need

He’s far from a great player too and not someone Buffalo wants either. No one is going to trade for him and they don’t need him with Jokiharju and Ristolainen already on the right side at the Price he’s gonna ask for

I would like to see this rumor you speak of. Sounds like completely fake news to me. You may not want him but he is definitely getting qualified and is far from a waiver player that you make him out to be.

Fair enough.
I selected Montour for his RH and because he seems like a popular trade in most BUF AGMs

Fair enough but money is a thing here. Can you really afford to shell out that kind of money for a guy sitting 3rd in RH D depth chart?

Not really a rumor. A host on a Sabres talk show speculated that maybe the Sabres wouldn't qualify him if there was not a high enough return for him. In the same segment the cohost suggested they trade his rights to Vegas straight up for Alex Tuch. Neither are any more of a legitimate rumor than an ACGM post

The reasoning behind selected Montour was :
A) he seems to be a common trade in most BUF AGMs
B) he’s do for a new contract but seeing as hes the 3rd RHD in their depth chart, I figured he’d be too expensive to keep and BUF could afford to move him (knowing their depth at RHD)

Dubas did a huge media day on Toronto radio on Thursday. He said something along the lines of “We believe in the contract we gave him and that he’ll be a Leaf for the duration of that contract, if not his career”.

It was on TSN 1050 radio this week during his media availability. Do you think a GM who just claimed on large media radio that Marner will be a Leaf for the life of his contract, if not his career, is getting traded anytime soon?

That is just media nonsense

He also said that he was shocked by how fans and media are treating Marner and that Ceci was fine.

I would be very worried if he believes in what he says to the media, really worried

Id disagree.

Nearly all the BUF guys here are screaming he’s too valuable and won’t be moved for some reason. Then half the comments are “he’s trash and won’t get qualified”. Seems like I picked a player that is splitting the room.

As for Nylander deal, Dallas could very well get set home in the first round and you’d be crazy to think they won’t make a change. Dallas was one of the leagues worst goal scorers, which Nylander helps fix. I feel like there’s a need filled and a moved asset from an area of strength here.

I still think you’d need to add a little bit with Nylander to get the job done
