cup run
Coltons AVV comes in higher then that likely pricing out Sundqvist. Unless you want to run a 22 man roster to sign Sundqvist to this deal. Can't see Tampa trading him away if this is the deal Colton gets, closer to 3.5-4M is more realistic for a long term deal.
I'd also imagine Drouin gets a good look in the top 6 to start out which allows colton to centre the thrid line making it a very hard line to play against.

Only a 20 man roster, maybe don't sign Compher and use that mony to bring in another 3-4 players with his 5.3m to have a complete roster? If you really want Compher, then maybe it's you don't sign Erod and sign 3 players to have a 22 man roster?

Nylander is the only moveable contract
Saying Jordan staal is leaving the canes in almost as likely as Bergeron signing with another team besides Boston. Can't reasonablly see it happening.
Considering O'Reilly's past contract negotiations, he's likley looking for the most expenisve contract he can get (total value). This is obvioulsy an assumption but he has a cup and not every player from ontario want's to take a discount for the leafs. I don't think the leafs can afford him unless they give him a long term contract which would age poorly.

My thought process is were missing one more legit top six winger and we would have Makar,Girard,Byram and Toews to fill out our top 4. The only reason I personally would be against it is that were expecting Landy back for the 24-25 season but the cap is expected to be 88Mill then. I think Hyman would fit in well in the avs top 6.

Leafs make the deal in a heartbeat then figure out how to dump yamamoto and foegele.
Avs say yes, Hymans contract is long but rn he upgrades the top six and his health is more reliable then Manson.

Mock Offseason
Ranta signed with MoDo for two years. Don't see him having any trade value at all rn. Maybe in two years though.
I like the idea of Adam Erne, haven't seen him mentioned or thought of him for the avs. Would compliment LOC well on the fourth line.
Edit: Also don't see the hawks or blues accepting those deals. Makes more sense for the blues to see if Vrana can have a good season then choose to keep him or sell high and the value just isn't there for the hawks unless there's someone they really like still availabe at 27

The defence is to injury prone imo to move toews unless it's addressing our biggest need which is centre. If the avs got hayes and feel he's the 2C then I'd think they keep toews over trading him for Guentzel. If they don't have a 2C i think trading toews for somone like scheifele makes sense. (I'm also bias and very high on toews).

That's why the avs would rather just keep him. I'm not saying he's likely to be moved but stay with colorado. Why would the avs move their second best dman when Giraid is inconsitant and Byram is injury prone. Only way they move Toews is for a player with term.

CUP BOUND
You only have a 20 man roster with no healthy scratches. Most teams will carry a 23 man roster which is the most players you can have on a active roster. You have enough cap spcae to sign one player for a healthy scratch. You'll need to re work your contracts to find an extra 1.5M for your full roster. I think Newhook will sign cheaper but Byram more expensive ( honeslty swaping those contracts would be more realalistic imo). Also still haven't addressed the main concern from last season which is our 2C position, compher played well but not well enough to be a 2c.

If the avs are trading toews I doubt it's for a rental. May as well use him as a own rental if managment doesn't think they can re-sign him. If were trading him it's for a player(s) we have control over for several years.

Treliving pls see this
Why do people think Murray will be placed on LTIR? He was healthy during the end of playoffs. Guy gets injuried often but are we expecting a season ending injury while trianing during the off season lol. They'll likely have to trade him.
For the trade, I can't see MTL holding back almost 3 mill for four years and trading a good player. Would take an unreasonable amount of value to get them to do that.

You signed four ufa centres but want Mikko at 2C? Mikko is a much better player at RW then Centre. I'd quicker try Monahan/Barbashev/Drouin at 2C before using Mikko at 2C.

Trading Matthews to LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>The problem with your POV is you can't understand that Matthews trade value is purely as a rental in every possible scenario and LA is not going to move Clarke (or Byfield) for a rental.
Also Matthews has a Full NTC kicking in on July 1st so it could absolutely be the same as Kane or Giroux.
I agree that Toronto's best course of action is to not trade him at all and try as hard as they can to extend him, but you have to understand that 1) Matthews can not discuss contract extensions prior to July 1st, and 2) Matthew holds pretty much all the cards after July 1st.</div></div>
I didn't know there was a rule stating he can't talk about extensions just thought he can't officially sign until july 1st. I thought it was like free agents who already had verbally agreements with teams then officailly sign when free agencey opens. There's always a bunch of them signed within minutes.
With that being said, I would rather see the leafs just keep Matthews and go for a cup if he's only being viewed as a rental and not getting good value for him.

Trading Matthews to LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>You are right they don't have to trade him but that's only true if he's willing to re-up with the Leafs. If not it's in their best interest to trade him. He entire idea of trading his is under the preconception he won't sign with Toronto. That has nothing to do with LA. If Toronto does not want to trade him to LA because they won't include Clarke then I don't think LA has an issue waiting to get him for free the next year
Toronto can allow LA to discuss an extension prior to a trade. However the actual extension would take place after the trade. How exactly do you extort extra value there? Let's run that as a hypothetical conversation.
TML - "we give you permission to talk to our player before hand."
LAK - "Ok thanks, then we can find out if he's willing to extend with us."
TML - "if he is willing to extend with you, Clarke has to be included in the deal."
<em>LA goes and talks to him</em>
LAK - "he wasn't willing to extend with us at this point in time but we'll trade for him anyways, so no Clarke included."
TML - "Fine."
<em>trade for rental takes place, some time after trade happens Matthews signs extension with Kings</em></div></div>
My point is I don't see what Toronto would want from LA that's fair value that's not Clarke. I doubt Toronto want's several players that can'f fit in there roster. LA won't be the only team interested. Literally almost every team in the leauge will be. This isn't a patty kane/claude giroux situation where they can trade him to one team only. I also don't agree that they will automatically trade him even if he is undecided on resigning. The leafs would for sure shop him but if the value is not there, they'll just run it back with him for his last year. It's not unheard of for teams to go into the last year of there stars contract without an extension and risk him walking (stamkos, JT). Matthews is a proven top 5 player, Clarke is a NHL prosepct that hasn't proven anything at the NHL level, could be a bust or could be a superstar, there's risk there. I'd except the trade to be Clarke ++ for Matthews. The trade posted here would be realistic trade value for AM.
Whether LA has an extention means nothing to Toronto, but means everything to LA. Toronto has there minimum return they expect for him. If LA doesn't meet that then the leafs trade him elsewhere or keep him.

Trading Matthews to LA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>That's not how that works. LA would be the team signing him to a contact, not Toronto. Toronto has no leverage over that in trade talks. The only thing they can do is deny a team from talking to the player or agent like Vancouver did with Horvat</div></div>
Toronto doesn't have to trade matthews, there not giving away a top 5 player in the leauge for free. IF LA is seriously interested in Matthews (not saying they are) then that deal starts with Clarke. Toronto would get more from another team or just run it back with Matthews for his last year and try to win a cup with him. So if LA doesn't want to trade Clarke then LA and toronto are not a good match for a Matthews trade.
Also why cant LA have an extension in place if Toronto let's them discuss an extension. No team is giving up fair or close to fair value for Matthews without having an extension in place and Toronto knows that.

Completely agree. I'd expect more back for toews. Toews is the better player and at a more important position with a cheaper cap hit.

2023 Avs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spyeye</b></div><div>Byram can't stay healthy. Teows is the better person to pay. RNH had as many points on a second line then all of the avs second line this year. Olauson hasn't developed and is a project the Avs can't wait for. Same goes for a 1st pick this year at 27.</div></div>
I'm also worried about byram's health but I'd still take on him over toews long term. If toews wants 8.5-9.5M mill for 5 plus years (lots of comparable contracts in that range for him) you have to take byram who's getting a bridge or cheaper long term contract. RNH is a solid player but had ONE point a game year, I would't bank on him doing that for several more years.
Olauson is two years out of his draft as a late first round pick. You cant call him a project lol, he was never supposed to jump into the nhl quickly. I'm not against trading him but since the avs are in a win now mode but this trade is giving away a important roster player and two trade chips for a salary cap efficent second liner. Av's dont get any better from this trade unless you think byram will never have a healthy season.

So the total over the next 3 years is 24.5 million due to Schmaltz or my proposal of $11 million to Granlund with pick 14 and a 1st round selection from last year.</div></div>
