Description
Today, I want to compare 2 of the best centers of the salary cap era.

Over their careers, Malkin has scored 416 goals & 1076 points in 907 career regular season games (point per game of 1.19). In the playoffs, he has 63 goals and 168 points in 162 games (point per game of 1.03). He has won 3 cups, a Hart, 2 scoring titles, a Conn Smythe, a Lindsey & a Calder.

Patrice Bergeron has a 352 goals and 869 points in 1089 regular season games (PPG average of 0.7979). In the playoffs, he has 40 goals & 103 points in 136 games (PPG of 0.7576). He has won 4 Selke trophies.

In terms of defensive play, Malkin’s expected goals against ranks in the 33rd percentile with a career defensive point share of 21.4. Bergeron’s highest ranks in the 94th percentile and has a career defensive point share of 30.5.

Personally, I’d say Malkin has been the better player. Even though Bergeron is far superior defensively, I feel Malkin’s skill level & ability to take over games single handedly is too hard to ignore.

homer lol when you think Guentzel is better than Marchand tears of joy

Guentzel never had to lick someone's face.....so he automatically wins that debate.

Bruins fan, ide take malkin over bergy. I truly wonder how good bergeron would have fully been had he not had so many concussions early on and this whole groin issue he is currently dealing with. hes got an offensive game that is severely underrated due mostly to playing under claude.

the majority of that list isnon NHL fuctions that he was on Team Canada.....

what I see is

Bergeron
1 Cup and 4 Selkes

Malkin

Stanley Cup champion 2009, 2016, 2017
Conn Smythe Trophy 2009
Hart Memorial Trophy 2012
Art Ross Trophy 2009, 2012
Ted Lindsay Award 2012
Calder Memorial Trophy 2007

yeah im taking Malkin….sorry idgaf about WC WJ or anything along those lines......its just dumb

the comparison Elite offensive player vs 2 way center

My original post on this thread was (#6) =
Malkin has the NHL "chops" won but Bergy is the INTL (and some NHL too) "Zen-Master"
* Malkin's better offensively but I voted Bergy for the more complete game and leadership.

I quoted the "resume list" you shat-on to show Bergeron vs Couturier because you went off topic; not me!
So stay on message Cappy. And when you do those kinda things, like focus and show aptitude, you don't have to make dumb comments!
Cheers

Yeah if we're making comparisons based on resume, Kane is a lot closer to Malkin than Bergeron is. Kane has a Calder, Conn Smythe, Hart, Pearson, Art Ross, and has been an All Star Captain several times. I'd still pick Malkin for sure, that whole center business, but Kane does have the most points in the decade so while the PPG may not be there, being able to consistently stay on the ice has to count for something as well

Funny how i explained my reasoning with logic and no biased, and you still called me biased. I guess that just proves my point that people will literally call anyone biased that they disagree with.

my point was accurate..... I was just laughing at you for think anyone actually give a crap about WC Wj gold..." like hey sweet you won gold with Canada"

again it was a type of player comparison…. Bergeron isn't in malkins class the fact people think so is funny to me.

this dude thinks winning gold on team canada means something.
Like F, how stacked was that roster compared to all the other teams playing. It's not even a fair competition. Canada should be winning gold every damn year. If they don't it's total failure. No other team has that kind of depth and never has.

people are insulted but come on Malkin is generational. he should be in that GOD tier of NHL players. bc Bergeron isn't as good as him doesn't mean hes not good but to start my franchise im not picking a shutdown forward… im taking the guy that can score 100 points and carry the team.

the fact people are picking Bergeron is just proof Malkin might be the most underrated player his entire era..... Crosby shadow is massive.

unpopular but completely accurate take …...players better than or equal to Malkin in the last 15 years.

Crosby
Ovechkin
Mcdavid

I agree 100% with this list. Mcdavid has a chance to pass both but not yet

What I don't think has been mentioned yet is line mates...
Geno has gotten stuck with dudes like Ruslan Fedetenko(no offense)...Sid has first dibs on wingers (Guentzel) except when hurt. As much as Geno elevates his game when Sid is out, he is greatly helped by getting better wingers and playing in front of Letang. Geno has rarely had good wingers. Neal and Kessel are the only ones that jump off the page, not counting the limited games with Guentzel this year.
Bergeron gets "the perfection line" with Marchand (a top-5 LW in hockey). BTW at this point he's(Marchand) above guentzel but it's close and not for long. Pastrnak is an elite goal scorer. bergeron gets top line minutes and some of the best wingers in hockey. Rust and Marleau/mccann/zucker/whoever plays LW are nice but they're not even close to marchand/pastrnak level. Geno does incredible with little help. Bergeron does a lot but less than Geno with as much help as one can get.

Bergeron is a really good two way centre. That's not disputed. He wins the Selke now more on reputation than performance. By analytics others should get more recognition. What Bergeron isn't is an elite offensive talent. Geno was rated the #3 C in the NHL by a data scientist, largely due to his ELITE offensive abilities. He rediscovered himself away from "Phil the Kill(er of Geno's ability to play sound defensive hockey)" this year and had some of the best offensive numbers in the league. If he didn't get hurt, he would have been at the top of the league in PTS.

Geno has always been the #2 C--one of the best #2 C in history. Like what 1/2 punch is better than Sid/Geno? Mario/Francis/Trottier? Gretzky/Messier? That's all that comes top of mind. Anyone got a better 1/2 punch?
McDavid/Draisaitl looks like it'll be great for a while but they have a long way to go to even be in the same conversation as Sid/Geno...
