Stone and Karlsson are very good at defense, if you can't solve it with d-men then solve it with very good 2 way forwards

If I'm VGK I'd decline this honestly.

As good as Matthews is, he just isn't worth two of their best forwards and a good prospect for that matter.

Edit: Also taking in to consideration the fact that both Karlsson and Stone are inked to max term deals, moving them for a guy with only 4 years left just seems bad asset management.

I mean fair enough I guess, I just don't see how they trade a guy like Matthews and don't get that elite #1 defenceman coming back

Only reason I could see Toronto maybe not doing this is due to age gap. Haven't checked up on AM recently too tbh. I do know Stone is like a top 5-10 player though.

When you have a franchise centre, you don't trade him. Ever.

You don't trade Matthews for a defenceman, franchise elite centres are the hardest thing to find. And TO has a #1 defenceman, everyone has just forgotten how good Rielly is.

The age gap and the fact that Matthews is the best player in the trade makes the whole thing monumentally stupid

Oh at offense? Yeah elite top 5 in the league when healthy

At defense he’s not good. It just shows how atrocious the Leafs d-core is when he had to play PK minutes

You're a clown. The biggest problem with the PK is the losing 57% of the draws. They could use a centre or two to win faceoffs. Rielly is like every leaf player, just constantly disrespected. He will win a Norris and it won't matter, will still be disregarded by people on here.

That's actually factually incorrect, he is quite good at defense.

He is certainly a top-10 defensemen in the NHL corrently.

You’re talking as if every person under the sun thinks the Leafs suck when actually I was pointing out 10 MONTHS ago that hey Dermott has been better than what he did, especially in the playoffs.

I was one of the first ones to point out a Hyman-Gallagher comparison, I praised Kappy long before everyone did, knew Willy would bounce back in a big way and I never said Reilly was bad I knew he looked that way because of injury issues.

So cut the crap you’re in no buisiness to talk I don’t even think VGK takes this it was just to show more or less 34’s value.

Judges otherwise it would look like: Dvorak, Hayton, Soderstrom, Demers(cap dump) and 2 firsts

Dvorak+1st=Karlsson
Soderstrom+Demers+First=slughtly below Stone
Hayton is a bit better than Krebs

You don't trade a franchise centre. Ever, it's just too valuable. Matthews is going to be a top 3 player in the NHL very soon. And that is worth more anyone could ever actually trade for.

Lol yup top ten

But the problem when we rank d-man is that people focus too much on Pts

Parayko for instance is almost never talked about yet he’s in the top 3 of the best shutdown d-men in the league, easily

Just look at the Norris, it’s very rare nowadays that defensive d-men win it

And also no he isn’t very good at defense. He takes too much risks,
Which is fine btw since that’s what he does for a living

Yes but Rielly has adequate defense while being absolutely dominant offensively. I'm not discrediting Parayko and he is probs top-10 as well I'm just saying the whole "Rielly has no defense" thing is a bit of a myth.

Only idiots trade franchise elite centres aged 22 for older players.
