Johnsson is redundant in MTL, picks are useless as MTL has like 14 picks already in this draft. They'd like Dermott, but not enough to move Petry and retain on top.

with retention at least change the picks to a 2nd.

Petry has been a top tier dman the past 3 seasons, he won't get traded for scraps.

Dermott + Kapanen with no retention would probably get the ball rolling.

That is not a trade that I make though for a rental UFA RHD with a NMC.

Montreal already have (Tatar, Drouin, Domi, Lehkonen, Byron that play left wing) Johnsson doesn’t interest us at all. Dermott is another piece that Montreal doesn’t want we already have enough bottom pairing left handed defenseman. And the pick are just a big joke. Kapanen as a right winger would certainly draw interest or Liljegren would make sense since Montreal would need a players that can remplace Petry on the right side on the depth chart. If you built a trade and offer piece that other team don’t want or don’t need you won’t get it. Team will pay a high price even for a year of Petry since he a giys who can step in and play top pairing minutes.

Petry is a career minus 100 or something like that. Sending Dermott and Johnsson for 1 year of a guy who can't defend is not a wise plan.

By that logic Anaheim would be idiots if they didn't trade H.Lindholm and Manson if Colorado offered R. Graves and I. Cole.

Lindholm is the best player in that trade, then Graves and Cole and Manson are about the same. Petry is okay but he's nothing special. He certainly doesn't put TO over the top.

I hate when people say "For just one year of a X player".... GM's already give 1sts, top prospects, young roster players etc for only 2-3 months of a player if they go far in the playoffs by trading at the TDL....... . Just one full year, at retention, is like super valuable.

TB paid a premium for Coleman because he is good and also cheap at 1.8M. You want a 24 min a night RHD who puts up 40+ on the regular, plays all situations and only costs 3.5M for two players the Habs don't want (And by many accounts TOR don't need either) and two picks the Habs already have oodles of?

How about half retained Petry for Liljegren and a 2022 pick that makes it fair

If you're reading for a guy to fill in as your 1RD on a cheap deal you need to give valuable assets, don't call if it doesn't include Robertson. To be honest we know some team could overpay for him at the deadline but I'm still tempering my expectations with the value so I'd say Robertson and a 2nd could be starting a conversation but once again someone will overpay for him if he's still on the market.
