Taking a big swing

Description
And... It may turn out to be a big swing and a miss because I don't think that CBJ has ANY plans to move off of Seth Jones.

For all of the Leaf Homers who are about to chime in and tell me that Josh Anderson isn't as good as Andreas Johnsson, save it. I'm not interested. That is a pretty even swap IMO even with Anderson having a down year. Anderson would be a much better fit with the Leafs playing with Tavares.

At any rate, this is all just pipe dream fantasy BS and I expect the same amount of Leaf-Goggled wearing ACGM's to rip it apart and and equal number of Non-Leaf fans to do the same defending the other teams involved getting hosed.

The entire purpose of this exercise is to assemble a team that can compete for a Cup. I think this team could. (Or a team similarly constructed that addresses all three areas of F/D/G).
Four lines that can play it any way that you want it. A MUCH more well rounded D Core that I would put up against anyone in the league and a goalie tandem that doesn't fizzle out at seasons end because of UFA status.

One last thing... Some will be griping about trading years of control for players with less term. Think about it this way.... what is the point of having the years of control if the team cannot be a legitimate contender?

I just wanna win. I think that this group could do that.

Dig in you buncha' crazies!!

I have explored Manrner for Jones before.
I know @Sign_em_up000000 will be all over this.

I dont like the other 2 trades at all tbh but Blue Jackets trade is interesting.

Maybe if Columbus went rebuild mode they would do this, that is only scenario in which Jones is traded.

Purely cap wise for both teams it seems like a wash.
But I do think you overpaid Anderson by 1 million.

I don't mind the premise of any of these deals BUT
The Calgary is nowhere near enough for Anderson let alone adding engvall and I'm sure Anaheim will be looking for more even though I believe that would be a fair swap they will likely be looking for a 1st Rd pick aswell

Thanks for the feedback. I went after term with the Anderson deal. Four years instead of a shorter bridge.

TBH if that happens its probably Andersen for Bennett, Pelletier, 2021 1st, 2021 2nd

But if you add Engvall I think a 2020 3rd or 2021 2nd should be added

That was to keep the salaries in check. (Adding Engvall). I have adjusted the original suggestion. For one year of Andersen before UFA status, I think that is fair.

I've heard from multiple CGY fans that Bennett can't play C very well

Neither can Engvall.

I would take the risk because Bennett plays a much tougher overall game than 98% of the current Leafs forwards.

Columbus has won 1 game with Jones out of the line up.... not saying we’d have more or less with others in the line up, but Jones in really that important to Columbus. Can’t see them trading him unless we are getting a replacement back or a 1st line center back.

Also as for the trade Columbus would 100% not make it as we need centers and adding Jenner just makes them say no even faster.

Its true though. His xGAR is pretty much tied with justin holl along with his RAPM and isolated impact. His numbers look a lot better to teh average person because he played with panarin and werenski a ton last season.

So this week on the Insider Trading segment Bob McKenzie gave an update on Josh Anderson. The player and team are at odds and Bob thinks there's a trade coming in the off-season. They are at odds because the team diagnosed his injury originally as 4-6 weeks (in December) but he hasn't played since.

Anyway, that's the tidbit I wanted to add. I don't know how real it is to add Seth Jones to the Leafs so I'll just stay out of it.

I overwhelmingly recommend you look at past years, especially if you're talking about Werenski supposedly propping him up last year (that's akin to claiming Atkinson was propping up Panarin). Jones' RAPM this year is an outlier of the "something is seriously wrong with this analytics tool" level.

Seth Jones is one of the best young defencemen in the NHL. Trying to talk around that with any type of "stats" is just a fools folly. Comparing him as an equal to Justin Holl is an even poorer attempt at shifting the narrative to something that is just not the reality. Anyone who thinks that untrue just doesn't understand hockey.

Oh, definitely. Seems obvious enough to me that we've got a keyboard warrior who saw Dom Galamini's tweet last Wednesday with that RAPM chart and suddenly thinks he's being clever and more informed than everyone else.

Jones' corsi and xG drop significantly when hes playing without werenski. Hes corsi drops by 8 points and his xG drops by around 2 when he wasnt with panarin. Blaming the stats because it doesnt fit the narrative is insane. Hes extremely overrated because he is on the ice with very good players. That doesn't make him bad but in reality hes more of a #3
