Andersen would be able to play next game. Doesnt have concussion and might be on ice at practice during the training today. If they keep the 30 game form they had with Keefe so far (19-8-3) for another 29 games, they would have 104 points. What a failure tho right? Also why are they officially screwed?

Nothing wrong with your math. It's just very unrealistic (to me) to expect Anderson to play the entire playoffs while giving him an almost historic work load. He's on pace for 60+ games in the regular season. This is just the tip of the ice berg. Please don't take this in any way that I want an injury. I DON'T want anyone injured, but this kind of play is how fatigue sets in and injuries happen. The biggest move Keefe's made (from an outsiders perspective) is that he's decided to play Anderson even more than Babs...who played Anderson too much too.

They plan on reducing Andersens workload. Babcock put him on just during the second night of the back to back which would mean that Andersen would play always at this point. They likely get a goalie and reduce it to like 58-62 games which is good for Fred.

I really hope you're right on ALL accounts and Dubas goes out and gets a reliable netminder ASAP (backup is fine). The Leafs are fun to watch. My concern about the workload goes both ways. In a VERY brief search...I couldn't find the last time a goalie that played 60 games in the regular season that won the Cup. A few close ones to be honest, but 60 seems to be a magic number. Why??? Because there are TONs of presidents trophy winners with goalies that play 60+ games...and no cup. Goalies just don't see to make it through a very strenuous playoffs after that kind of regular season.

I just read that the Leafs were just being cautious because of his concussion issues in the past but he passed all the concussion protocol testing and could be at practice today.

It was the right move to keep him out like they did because if they can't afford to lose him.

He's played 60+ games every season for the Leafs, I wouldn't be overly concerned after a loss where the Leafs actually played a very very good game. This season is far from over

I mean...you're making my point. The Leafs haven't won the cup...much less get past the 1st round. Honestly, not intended on being a dig. Look at Holtby too. Routinely plays 65+ games a season. Won many presidents trophies. Only 1 cup and it was when he was "limited" or saved more appropriately during the regular season.

The Leafs can be their own worst enemy, for sure, and shoot themselves in the foot, sure, but I don't think that with 30 or so games left in the season, you can "officially" make a call on anything. There is still a lot of hockey left to be played. Would the Leafs survive an Andersen scare with Hutchinson taking the majority of the next number of games, should it come to that? Probably not, but in fairness to Leafs' fans, he lost his first 5 starts and had a GAA over 4, so the position technically should have been upgraded some time ago. Should the Leafs play Cody Ceci 20 plus minutes a game even though he's proven that when he gets stuck out there against the oppositions better players, he's like a pylon? I am not sure there are many alternatives. Dermott has proven he has a hard time playing the right side, and you don't, or shouldn't do that to rookie Sandin. Even if Liljegren was recalled, I can't see him getting more than 15 minutes per game, and Marincin, though he is also terrible, is maybe good for 12, and he's prone to mistakes as well. So, I think if there is any blame to pass around here, at this point, it's on the GM for not reacting fast enough to what might become a failure of a season. Clearly, there are issues this team needs to address, no team is perfect. Though I do think this management group heavily underestimated the Florida Panthers prior to the start of this season.

No where near historic. Many goalies have played 60+ games and gone on to win the cup.

Here's the reality of TO, they are literally halfway through the rebuild, that's where they are. The forward group or core is built and signed. The D is about a quarter of the way built but nothing signed long-term, they are at the point now where they will be concentrating on building the back end the way they see fit, they won't be rushing it or making knee jerk moves , the win the cup window has just cracked open because of the massive offense this team can produce, it's years away from closing like 5-7 years away.
