It depends on how the Devils view Mitchell

The Blackhawks view him as better than Jokiharju, hence the Nylander trade. If you don't know much about him, he is primed to have a big season in college this year. It's not totally far fetched to say that he might win the Hobey Baker this year.

This could be enough to just get him as a rental, but I feel like there's a good chance he ends up like Mark Stone at last year's deadline; everyone will want him and make calls on him, but someone will end up ponying up more assets to get him with an extension in place. This wouldn't be enough for Hall + extension, but probably close for Hall as a pending UFA

Mitchell and a first....would think that would be able the best offer the Devils would get. Still don't know if the Hawks do it. Awful difficult to get out of the first round in the Central Division.

Not sure the devils trade hall though especially if they are in contention. Even if they are aware he wont resign, if they are in a good chance to win a cup at the deadline, he might act as their "deadline deal" and then potentially lose him for nothing at the end of the year. IT ALL hinges on their play though.

Can I ask, why do this? Ian Mitchell is one of our best defensive prospects and that’s what we need is defense! Forget Taylor hall, please, please, forget Taylor hall. Offense hasn’t been the problem. Trading jokiharju and a 2nd might have gotten the “right” nylander, and then we coulda gotten byram. However, here we are. Chaos is reigning supreme.
