Expanding on Kscoop's Pastrnak for Draisaitl

Description
It would hurt to lose Pasta, but answering the biggest question that the bruins have moving forward (who their top center is after Bergeron declines) might be worth it. Kind of stole @kscoop idea here, and then expanded on it. Following year Backes is moved to a low salary team after his signing bonus is paid July 1st. The year after that, the bruins pay seattle to take him in the draft, and one of Studnicka, Frederic, or JFK takes over. Certainly not meant to be overly realistic. Just thought kscoops idea was fun.

Might be a bit light on the value side, but Stone is putting them in a very tough spot. Lots of options for Krug, they could flip him for 1st, a roster player, and a prospect if it doesn't seem like he'll sign.

I think Bruins need to add to Edmonton trade. I think most value a potential franchise center than a franchise winger. I also do not think Krug waives to go to Ottawa however, I do love Stone.

his no trade list is only 8 teams. Ottawa could be in that, but they might not be.

as for Pasta vs Draisaitl, remember who drafted Pastrnak. He's paid less, he's put up better numbers over the last couple years. I agree, the center is worth more, but it could be an organizational fit for both teams.

I can't tell you how much I hate this idea.

I understand that Bergeron and Krejci are aging, but both are still very productive. I understand Draisaitl is good, but I wouldn't go near this deal with a 10 foot pole.

Pastrnak's contract is amazing and Draisaitl's not so much & the theory that you should always take the center is false in my opinion. Should Tampa trade Kucherov for Draisaitl? Just an FYI Pastrnak has outperformed Kucherov vs their 1st two seasons. I also see no reason why he would not continue to get better as well. I know they have a perceived problem at center in the future, but I don't think it's unrealistic to think they are decent for through the 2018-19 & 2019-20 seasons.

    A) they have enough young talent to go get someone.
    B) Free agent centers in the next two years: Seguin, Backstrom, Duchene, Pavelski (Old and performing), RNH, Plus any teams that may fall out of playoff contention and be looking to deal. FLA has a lot of center depth they might look to upgrade other positions.
    C) The Bruins have young guys who could step up and fill in
    D) There are about 5 teams that don't have to worry about their best players getting old and most of those aren't playoff teams because well the reason they have good young talent is because they have drafted high
    E) Bruins have a top 5-10 1/2 punch at center right now. They don't need to fix that now.

Yes, players fall off fast, but like I said - baring injury (which any player can have) Bergeron does not fit that mold. I see no reason to think he isn't 70 ish points next year playing with Marchand, and unless I see something this year, it seems a couple years away before he isn't a top 15 NHL center.

He's not a franchise center. He is a very good Center.

Teams with Two Franchise center's make the playoffs.

    McDavid is a Franchise center.

Pastrnak is MUCH more valuable than you are giving him credit for

    https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/seasons/last-2-nhl-seasons-players-stats.html

    Kucherov for Draisaitl?
    Laine for Draisaitl?
    Panarin for Draisaitl?
    Hall for Draisaitl?
    Taresenko for Draisaitl?

He has outperformed all but Kucherov over last two years.

With your and @kscoop logic - The Jets should trade Laine for him.

idk, I'd say Pasta for Draisaitl straight up would be close to even, but I think Boston would have to add a bit...

    1. Pasta has only scored 3 more points in the past 2 years, but likely played with better linemates
    2. Draisaitl is a center (more valuable than RW)
    3. Pasta has a more team-friendly deal, but it runs out 2 years before Draisaitl's

    I'd say maybe Draisaitl = Pasta + 3rd.

Yes you are light on the Stone deal. Even worse with Stone and Leon, the Bruins are really getting close to the cap, the following years with some RFA signings.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic? I think it did age well.

    A) They Traded young talent in Donato for Coyle.
    B) Trochek is on the market - Also Coyle. Not a Top center, but a decent 2c and a great 3c. I am very glad they didn't sign any of the center's I mentioned.
    C) Studnicka looks real good, Frederic not so much as a top 6, but he will be solid NHL'er, but they have Beecher coming too. Also Krejci is still on a 60pt+ pace.
    D) I stand by this. Still don't think the Bruins are that old. Chara throws off their avg age. He is old, but McAvoy, Carlo, Pastrnak, Debrusk are all 23 or younger, Then the 27-32 year olds in Marchand, Krug, Coyle. Bjork is still pretty young 23 and having a much better year than his stats show.
    E) This is still true. Bergeron and Krejci are a top 5-10 center combo - maybe higher.

I would still take Pastrnak over Draisaitl.
Bergeron in fact had 79pts in 65 games - so not falling off & is PPG this year.
Yeah Draisaitl is a stud. so is pastrnak. Not sure 11 more points and 9 less goals is worth 2m more a year. Also has the benefit of playing with the best player in the world. I know Bergeron and Marchand are real good, but they aren't McDavid. I bet he would get a couple point bounce playing with McDavid.

Since I wrote this. None of the Boston center's have fallen off and Studnicka and Beecher are coming. Pastrnak is leading the league in goals.

    *Edit.
Nevermind, I saw you liked the original post. I was afraid this was the same post I said Draisaitl would never be worth the contract - Whoops. That comment will not age well.
