All I know is when he was here, he seemed to have good chemistry with Matthews.
I like the idea of Bunting, Bertuzzi and Domi as people who stir the pot, all playing in your top 9.

Dubios Hypothetical
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>I continue to be confounded by Leafs trades involving moving heavy assets for a center.
Matthews and Tavares should be playing 40-45 minutes a night. Investing that many assets in the position is foolhardy.</div></div>
IF you can move Kerfoot ++ for Dubois, I think you need to do it.
1) It makes your C depth the envy of the League, and gives you the ability to really expand your scoring threat to a legit top 9.
Hyman Matthews Nylander
Vesey Tavares Marner
Mikheyev Dubois Robertson
2) It helps 'future proof' your top 2 C's. Matthews is 23, and Dubois is 22 turning 23. When Tavare slows down, you can flip Dubois and Tavares.
3) He is playing better than most 5m dollar guys. His defense is pretty good when he is engaged. He plays playoff style hockey, and other than this season he has shown better and better offensive skills. Its hard to find a better 5m bet, on a 23-24 year old C. He is also a RFA at the end of the deal, so you still have good leverage. If he develops into a legit #1/2C, you can look at moving Tavares before he starts slowing down.

Maybe switch Kerfoot for Dermott.
Move Lehtonen onto the 3rd pair.
Find someone else to take Kerfoot. My suggestion earlier was LA for Grundstrom and a prospect.

Thats too much IMO.
If its Dermot + 2nd, that seems close. Kerfoot is a decent 3C, who is owed less than 2.7m for the next 3 years in actual dollars. He has decent value, and this trade makes a massive hole down the middle for the Leafs.
If its Kerfoot+Dermott+2nd id want Weegar+Accari

Attempt 2020-10-13
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Kings decline that deal, they have some of the best center prospect depth in the league and are not moving away prospects for an expensive Kerfoot. Kings want to use their space to get more picks, especially with so many teams against the cap.</div></div>
Thanks! I agree their C prospect depth looks really good, which is part of the reason I think a 1 year stopgap 3C could be helpful in not rushing anyone.
In this deal, I see the kings using him as 3C this year, while their prospects get acclimated to the NHL. Byfield can take some draws on his strong side (if he starts on the 3W), and have an easier transition into the NHL. If after 20 or so games he looks good and comfortable, switch Kerfoot to his wing.
After the 2021 season, a few prospects are ready to make a jump into the top 9 he should be pretty easy to move.
His cap hit is 3.5 but his cash amount is 2.6 for the last two years.
Just my thoughts! Cheers mate

Attempt at a NJD-TML trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JRoss</b></div><div>We also need defense. NJ is getting value back but also losing two defensemen in a team that already had no defense. Do we want to manage our assets up front the way toronto has and have no defense? How has a top heavy team helped Toronto? This fan is addressing those needs yet puts us into that situation.
If we can Re-sign Gusev and Palmeiri which should be our intention do we really need both Nylander and Johnsson?
Palmeiri, Nico,Hughes, Gusev, Bratt, Nylander, Johnsson, (possibility that our draft pick this year may be a forward as well)
Defense. butcher, Ty smith, Subban, carrick, mueller, mermaid, tennyson, Walsh
You are literally running an AHL defense. Subban is the only one who is NOT a bottom pairing D. And without someone Defensively who can play on his side he is defensively another bottom pairing defenseman.
Let’s give away our best defenseman at a reasonable contract and our top defensive prospect for a position that isn’t needed as much as defense. I’d only want one of Nylander Johnson and it would be picks or forwards going and not defensemen.
Leafs keep trying to trade their forwards to get our defensemen when our defense is WORSE than theirs currently.</div></div>
Creator here.
Wouldnt have a problem switching Bahl to an equivalent type talent up front.
Originally I wanted to include Nolan Foote (I have Kuokkanen, Merkley and maybe Thompson ahead of him).
Assuming Bahl is a no go, id remove Okhotyuk and Walsh as well.
Foote, or to a lesser extent Maltsev could be interesting.

Toying with such a lineup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>carterhart</b></div><div>It sucks because he'll be a UFA and they normally get paid more than they're worth. So you're proposal is actually realistic! I'm just saying hopefully they lock him up for lower cash and it would be a win for them.</div></div>
With how tight the cap is, I could see him going sub 3 on a 1 or 2 year deal. Flat cap is gonna be around for a few years, and playing on a supper offensive team will probably artificially pump his offensive stats a bit and may make his post-Leafs contract easier.
Not sure why you have 3 spares and no one in the 4th line LW spot though lol.
With your team id go..
Mikheyev Tavares Marner
Hyman Matthews Nylander
Robertson Paquette Kappy
Engval Spezza Barbie
Reilyl Gudas
Muzzin Holl
Sandin Dermy
Lehtonen
Move Marincin down
900k cap to spare!
Paq may not be a good 3C, but id prefer to not take Nylander out of the top 6 after such a great and dominant season.

I agree, but how do you balance the D? There is gonna be a ton of cap back there after the TDL acquisitions. Kind of the anti Toronto.
Do you keep Gardiner and play him 3rd pair?
I disagree with the trade value wise, but something has to give right?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsFanForSomeReason</b></div><div>The Leafs would be boned if they never made this trade. Imagine their D without Barrie</div></div>
Id challenege that.
If you take total cap hit of Barrie+Kerfoot vs Naz, Leafs would have had (6.25m - 4.5) an extra 1.75m to sign someone in the off season. There were a decent amount of rumors/suggestions that the Leafs were attempting to target Shattenkirk if he was bought out, which he was, but the trade happened first.
Who would you rather have, Naz+Shatty or Kerfoot+Barrie?
Or to go further down the (potential) rabbit hole, if they hadnt traded Naz for D, maybe it would have been Kappy as hes blocked by Nylander + Marner?

Kadri is worth more than that.
Glendenning is an above average 4C, but downgrading from Kadri to him would be a huge loss.

McLeod would be a solid minor target for the Leafs. We have bad C depth outside of the NHL, and he is fast AF. Could be brought up next year to play PK/ Wing and learn the C game to replace Kadri when his deal is up.
Not a big fan of Benson personally.
Id prefer Larson+Pulji+McLeod for Nylander+picks
Pulji is a year two away from maybe being a top 6 guy, but could help more long term.

Pesce is currently the third RHD on Car.
Moving him for more help up front makes sense to me.
Not sure how the 2nd and 4th help them other than keeping the cupboards even more stacked. Would they prefer recent picks from those rounds who are farther along development wise? I.e Bracco/Korshkov instead of the 2nd or Lindgren/Brooks instead of the 4th.
Id do Kappanen, Holl, Bracco(2nd) and Korshkov (2nd) for Pesce without the extra piece.

Would not do as a Leafs fan.
Pearson is having a bad year, is 27, and doesnt do anything we dont already have.
Id want Vilardi/Kupari as a center piece with Muzzin.
Muzzin only has 1 more year on his contract, at which point we will have Marner and Matthews hopefully signed to long term deals, so cap will be tight again if he plays well.
So in my mind its Nylander for 2 years of Muzzin, Kempe to help in the short term and Kupari as the shiny toy.
