Umm are we looking at the same trade?

We also need defense. NJ is getting value back but also losing two defensemen in a team that already had no defense. Do we want to manage our assets up front the way toronto has and have no defense? How has a top heavy team helped Toronto? This fan is addressing those needs yet puts us into that situation.
If we can Re-sign Gusev and Palmeiri which should be our intention do we really need both Nylander and Johnsson?
Palmeiri, Nico,Hughes, Gusev, Bratt, Nylander, Johnsson, (possibility that our draft pick this year may be a forward as well)
Defense. butcher, Ty smith, Subban, carrick,mueller, mermaid, tennyson, Walsh

You are literally running an AHL defense. Subban is the only one who is NOT a bottom pairing D. And without someone Defensively who can play on his side he is defensively another bottom pairing defenseman.
Let’s give away our best defenseman at a reasonable contract and our top defensive prospect for a position that isn’t needed as much as defense. I’d only want one of Nylander Johnson and it would be picks or forwards going and not defensemen.
Leafs keep trying to trade their forwards to get our defensemen when our defense is WORSE than theirs currently.

Wouldnt have a problem switching Bahl to an equivalent type talent up front.

Originally I wanted to include Nolan Foote (I have Kuokkanen, Merkley and maybe Thompson ahead of him).
Assuming Bahl is a no go, id remove Okhotyuk and Walsh as well.

Foote, or to a lesser extent Maltsev could be interesting.
