According to half of the people on here, Barrie is the worst defenceman in the entire world. Only because he plays on the Leafs.

Kerfoot has been fine, but he's no Kadri. Barrie has been atrocious and he was the main part of the deal. This is just me saying that if they had a chance to redo that deal... they DEFINITELY WOULD.

And so would I. I would find a way to keep Kerfoot and trade Barrie back to Colorado for Kadri.

If you take total cap hit of Barrie+Kerfoot vs Naz, Leafs would have had (6.25m - 4.5) an extra 1.75m to sign someone in the off season. There were a decent amount of rumors/suggestions that the Leafs were attempting to target Shattenkirk if he was bought out, which he was, but the trade happened first.
Who would you rather have, Naz+Shatty or Kerfoot+Barrie?

Or to go further down the (potential) rabbit hole, if they hadnt traded Naz for D, maybe it would have been Kappy as hes blocked by Nylander + Marner?

Yeah, but even having that extra money for let's say.. a backup goalie at the beginning of the season? But seriously that was a terrible trade and I'm certain that dubas regrets it. Why did they feel like they needed Barrie. He is a 50 point guy who cant defend, and needs pp1 time to be effective. Reilly was that guy, and he did a fantastic job last season. There is literally no reason to get a guy like that for this team.

He isn't a defensive defenceman. He's an offensive defenceman who does way more good than harm. Like Gardiner was but Barrie is just better.

This team absolutely needs him. Having defenceman that can get the puck and move it up ice is paramount for the style this team plays. Barrie has been very good under Keefe. He does get burnt every once and a while by being too risky in the ozone but he isn't at all a problem. Fans who don't really understand hockey have had it in for him since 7 games into the season and now just watching for mistakes or blame him for other issues. Much like Rielly gets blamed for everything.

The point is he doesn't have to be the best defensively, he creates more than enough offense to make up for his deficiencies.

I've been the biggest critic of Barrie on this site. Still in would have been disastrous to have Liljegren or even Marincin in the top six the entire season.
Leafs filled two NHL positions with that trade...and gave up just one. Fair trade, needed trade for the Leafs

The leafs don't have any good defensive defenseman therefor Barrie has no use on the leafs, the leafs will trade him
