No it doesn't help the Leafs this season. Barrie is still needed this season. And the lineup. Reilly is still out of the lineup. To expect Dermot to suddenly go the right side this late in the season and hoping Liljegren is NHL ready for full time duty with Sandin, that's expecting too much.

I have lost all confidence in Barrie's abiltity as a defenceman to defend in the NHL and his decision making which is just too reckless. Have no idea why he would take a slapshot on rush in OT last night which caused breakawy the otherway which lead to the winning goal. Think Colorado knew exactly what they were doing when they traded him last year to Toronto. I am totally confident that Leafs defence is upgraded by him being moved out and Leafs nolonger having a loose cannon playing defence. Willing to take my chances with Sandin and Liljegren over Barrie because at least they know how to defend.

look at his post-babcock stats. he's not there to be a jake muzzin, he's there to flow the offence and be somewhat serviceable in his own end, not some sort of defensive stalwart. when the leafs are healthy, and when they hopefully add a top4 defensive RHD

Moving out a Dman for no real return will not improve the D

I agree with you that he is very talented offensively and has put up lots of points. However, l feel he is a skating time bomb who has no concept of defending and is just too high risk on a winning team as his mistakes are really damaging.

Would agree with you if I considered Barrie a Dman. However, he is really a forward trying to play defence so moving out an rover in Barrie to put in a defender (Lilly) will improve the D.

Barrie moves the puck out of our end much more efficiently than Lilly at this point. This is nothing more than a hot take.

There just arent enough all around dmen that can produce the offense that he can. If you want one its gonna cost a ton. So give him a super defensive partner and cross your fingers ot be prepared to offer something ridiculous to upgrade him on the blue line but your probably better with him than without

A good defenceman is much more than putting up points and i am prepared to move on from Barrie. We can always call up Bracco and convert him to defence and he will probably put up alot of points as well.

I'd like to see them add Barrie to a package trade to get a D with term and a reasonable cap hit, but not for Picks alone

If the Leafs are moving Barrie to CGY, one of Brodie or Hamonic would need to be coming back the other way.

Think Leafs may be prepared to move on from Barrie for just draft picks which can be used in future trade. Calgary can then keep Brodie and Hamonic and save their season.

he may not be jake muzzin in his own end, but he drives possession (and when we have the puck they can't score) and moves the puck out of the zone well. He's not your defensive defenceman, nor is he your do-it-all #1 defenceman, but when the defence is healthy, he'll hopefully be paired with a primarily defensive defensemen, and if the leafs can get a defensive RHD, so will rielly.
