Am I missing something about the "6 extra pieces"?? Or did they revise the trade? I just see Armia + Petan + 2nd for 10OA....which I don't think is nearly enough value to get #10.</div></div>
Details at the top:
WPG in: Kelfbom+2018 1st (10 OA)
WPG out: Myers, Armia, Petan, Chiarot, Dano, 2019 1st, 2018 2nd
Dano, Chiarot, + 2019 1st also included but going to OTT to help fascilitate Hoffman to EDM

3 way deal EDM OTT

I would try to sign him, but not sure what that would do to their Cap situation? If traded the Oilers could do the same. Even so the 6 extra pieces for 10OA is way too much.</div></div>
Klefbom has 5 years left on his deal. The pieces are absolutely required to get that deal done without giving up any of Ehlers, Connor, Ros, Vesalainen etc.
Dano and Petan are never going to crack the Jets roster, Armia is expendable, Chiarot is also expendable especially with the addition of Klefbom at his term and Niku. Let's not forget the Jet also have Samberg and Stanley as LHD prospects that could be ready in a couple years where the RHD side of things isn't so rosy. Myers isn't getting re-signed because of Trouba long term contract so why not strengthen the left side and prep for the future? It's asset management and economics 101 especially when you have Poolman who is more than capable on that 3rd pair.

Blues winning the cup next year
Not CAP compliant. Missing two players from the roster (which is allowed I might add but not smart and no team does this). Also you're not accounting for bonuses which means you're likely below the CAP already. Team looks dangerous but someone will need to take less money on their deal to be compliant or another trade has to happen

Tkachuk
Every year someone drops....Chychrun was consensus top 5 pick (as high as #2) and dropped to what 16? The draft is top heavy and if teams need D or C he will drop.
Dhalin, Svech, Zdina, Bouchard, Boqvist, Dobson, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi, Veleno, Wilde, could ALL be in the top 10 based on team need. Wingers are easier to come by and nothing against Tkachuk because I also believe he's a top 10 pick it's just impossible to know where he's valued and by whom. Have to remember who's picking in that range as well. What are their needs? Top 3 likely set but OTT, ARZ, DET all need quite a bit but glarring holes at D and C for them. Going to be an interesting draft to say the least and a very good prospect will be available at 10 regardless!

Sorry but I agree that Tkachuk has the potential to fall especially if the MTL wanting a C is true. The only real certainty is that BUF is drafting Dhalin. CAR almost 99% drafts Svechnikov but there has been and always will be a Russian bias so there's a chance someone passes on him but very doubtful!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dcc94</b></div><div>I would rather keep Connor and Myers instead of having Hamilton. Basically what the trade is....including potentially losing a 1st round pick</div></div>
again there's always the "I'd Rather" but a) this is a business and b) there's a CAP. Need to use ELCs and build a team for the future while remaining competitive. We cannot keep all of Connor, Ehlers, Laine, Wheeler, Scheif, Buff, Perrault, Myers, within the next 2 years. Myers is likely not re-signed next year IF they kept him so may as well extract value. Hamilton is better than Myers but not than Buff so it's a downgrade while getting a potential replacement RHD with the pick at 10. It's long term thinking while still considering the short term "win now" mentality.

Trades will be made
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habby12</b></div><div>I like the Byf trade. Just favors Winnipeg a bit more.
I believe Calgary want to keep Andersson. He is going to play more this year and get a real chance.
And Montreal just wont do that... They will keep as many picks as possible. Then they can sign free agents or take cap dumps as part of their rebuild if needed.</div></div>
MTL absolutely does that. They take two "lottery tickets" in a 2nd and 4th and turn them into AT WORST a good 3rd line C and at best a Solid #2C (likely #1C on MTL though) who has term. Everyone overvalues draft picks after the 1st 20 picks. It becomes about a 50/50 chance of a player drafted from 20-30 of being an NHLer and about a 5% chance they're top 9 fwd or top 4 D. After #30 those chances PLUMET greatly of the player ever being even a 4th liner.

Trade for rights
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueNorth</b></div><div>I appreciate the creativity. If the Jets could land Hughes, Dobson or Bouchard to eventually replace Myers on the back end, it could be an interesting concept. 5 years out, I'd envision D pairings of Morrissey-Trouba, Niku-Dobson, Stanley-Poolman.
The firepower of the top 6 is scary.
Vinnylou, I'm guessing Laine comes in around $8-9M, Wheeler $7M and Connor might need a bridge deal. Likely cost one or both of Mason's final year or Perreault to fit it all in.</div></div>
I've got Laine from 7.5-9 (Chevy is a miracle worker), Wheeler too many factors but could be as low as 5.5-8 and Connor 5-6.5 are my best guesses (term for Laine and Connor of course as bridge would be cheaper).
5 years time I'm looking for D-pairings like:
Morrisey-Trouba
Niku-Bouchard/Dobson/Boqvist
Samberg-Poolman

Trouba Gone At The Draft
Meh Jets fan here and I'm not interested in that deal even with Pullock so to pull him out makes it worse for the Jets. Top pairing RHD at 23 years old are scarce in the NHL and though Pullock scores more points, Trouba is tasked with shutting down the opponents best. Also Pullock is far from being as proven as Trouba. Albeit like the fact he's got more control but still

going even younger
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>you can go younger, but other teams may not want or cannot take all the salary in a trade.</div></div>
So there's reasons for those deals specifically. COL is currently sitting at 6M BELOW the CAP floor with 1 contract to sign and no backup goaltender. Mason can come in and hopefully solve 2 birds with 1 stone as well as maybe do for Varlamov what he did for Hellebuyck.
Little for a 1st in 2019 is completely reasonable considering he's locked up for 6 years at a respectable 5.2M and the fact they desperately need a C and will likely miss on Tavares and Stastny as those guys want to go to winning teams. That 2019 1st would have to be lottery protected of course but it might not even be top 10 so the value is more then fair.
Chiarot trade is negligable but someone would trade a 6th for him but if not who cares send him down to captain the moose.

It's resigning to the fact you have to either let Wheeler walk, trade Buff, Kulikov, and/or Perrault in the future but the Jets have the wing depth to do that. Ehlers, Laine, Connor, Vesalainen is a solid top 6 winger core. Maybe if you have to move Perrault and Kulikov to get JT I think you do it considering your C-depth is Pitsburgh-esque with Tavares-Scheif down the middle. Perrault, Kulikov gone frees almost 8.5 which covers a Laine raise essentially. CAP going up a few Million the following year opens 2-5M more for Wheeler raise. Then you're looking at Connor Ros raises but there's already room because of the space provided in the above scenario in bonuses coverage (which once they get new deals there's no bonuses for them to hit)

WPG MTL VGK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>The market sets the bar. At the rate young stars are getting signed for (Eichel, McDavid, Draisaitl, Tarasenko, and so on) 9mill is pretty reasonable. Keep in mind if he keeps this pace up and has a career as long as Ovechkin's, it's pretty likely he surpasses his stats. Laine definitely needs to work on his two-way game, but we're dealing with a league where you pay for offense, and generally (not always) get a discount on good defensive play. I hope to good we sign him in the 7-8 range but that's a bigger bargain now than the Ehlers deal was back when he signed.
You are right about the organizational value of Scheifs' contract. I think Scheifs sets a precedent if we resign a guy like Statny that we won't go over 6mill, and likely would be closer to 5mill, and Wheeler extension will have a similar discount relative to UFA market value, but that's all speculation.</div></div>
Eichel, McDavid, Draisaitl are all not comparable to Laine in that they are C's. McDavid is the absolute top of the league so the ceiling is there and Laine's no where near that. As for Tarasenko that's actually the most compareable to Laines. He likely comes in around 7.5-8.5 but that all depends on him and how well Chevy Negotiates!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>The only ridiculous part about this is Kovalchuck. And he will also not get 3 years, he will only get 1 or 2.
Chevy said he is not buying out Mason so move him or Kulikov. If moving Kulikov, add a guy like Thomas Hickey in FA for a year
Play Kovalchuck on LW and Vesa on RW. Bump Perreault down to 4 line w/ lowry and copp.
You could get a 3rd for Chiarot and take Petan out of Myers trade, its fair without him.
Great Job. This is great.
BTW, Who would you draft at 10 OA. Assuming that Noah Dobson, jesperi kotkaniemi, and Ty smith are available.
I would draft jesperi kotkaniemi because center is our are of need and he is a playmaker who would work great with Ehlers and Laine on the 2nd line in the future. Don't really need defencemen.
Though I do like Jet woo (very similar to Buff) who will probably go late in 1st round. Would take a run at getting him.</div></div>
I think you take Dobson or Kotkaniemi more likely Dobson as the Jets need some more solid D prospects who can be ready when Buff moves on in 3 years. I agree you probably can take out Petan from the EDM deal but maybe not so it's the safe bet to ensure EDM fans aren't crying and WPG fans could care less about Petan for the most part as he's never cracking that roster.
You can't trade Mason and likely have to either buy him out or like you said Move Kulikov but his value is low right now too so doubt anyone bites on that. Reason you can't move Mason is because I think there will be better starters made available this off-season. You could concievably see Rinne dealt, one of Holtby or Grubauer, stupid as it may sound Bobrovsky could be available (he's going to want Cary Price money and if CBJ were smart they'd move him and get a monster return) and these are just due to contract reasons/Cap implications.

FLA Value for 15 is about right. Doubt you'd have enough time to sign Mascherin though. ARZ trade value is about right to move up 10 spots but ARZ would despite being analytics minded would still probably never do it as they themselves need a Boqvist or Bouchard type RHD.

WPG Trade. Playoff Contention + Lots of Cap Space
Trouba is not a "Franchise D" as stated above by another poster however that doesn't change the fact that a 23 year old RHD playing in a top pairing role isn't as valuable as a #1C. Trouba does not have the point totals to call him an "Offensive Defensman" but he's a #1RHD at 23 years old logging big minutes against the oppositions best as well as top PK. The simple fact remains that Trouba will not be traded unless he demands out which he's already stated he's happy and would sign long term this off-season.
If you want to tag someone as a "Franchise" player because they've "changed the team" then I guess that makes Eichel not a "Franchise Center" yet does it as BUF has failed to make the playoffs since his arrival despite how amazing he is he's still unable to "Change the team" or "turn the team around"....

2nd that thought. Trouba is as valuable to the Jets as Eichel is to the Sabres and now that (it appears anyways based on Troubas comments) he's willing to sign long term they don't move him barring some gross overpayment or for another #1C.

Since when has Chiarelli made a GOOD trade???
Hall for Larsson, Reinhart for a 1st and 2nd, Eberle for Strome.
At least in the above proposed trade the Oilers aren't getting THAT bent over. It's either going to be Myers or Faulk likely that the Oilers get and judging based on chiarellis preferences it'll be size based and recency bias. Myers having a good post-season, playoff experience, and the fact the Jets can also give EDM a solid depth guy in Armia that could actually be one of Chiarellis "best trades"...not saying much though

Winnipeg does this for CAP reasons. Stability at LHD. Drafting a young RHD or C who in 3 years can replace Buff or Stastny (because they're going to pernially contend they won't draft in the top 10 likely for years to come). They also do this because yes, Connor is better than Puljujarvi right now but Puljujvari has just as much potential to be as good if not better especially when you consider quality of linemates and situation for both Connor and Puljujarvi. Anyone is going to pot 30 Gs on the wing of Scheif and Wheeler if they've got the talent! <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arafay</b></div><div>As a jets fan, NO. To speak to your 1* rating....read the above. Also, the Jets won't be able to sign everyone so to have your top 9 look like that, while you D-core gets better at the cost of Kyle Connor is something SMART Gms do! Trust me I'd hate trading Connor because I loved him prior to his draft year and saw huge potential but to get good, you have to give good and with the contract statuses of the guys above combined with all aspects this deal makes BOTH teams better!

Offseason - What do you think
There's no way a bridge deal nets you 6M for 2 years. That's a 6-7 year deal figure. If Helley does 2 years it's between 2.5-3.5M per. Armia won't get 2M. Can't afford to pay 3rd/4th liners that much money. If that's the case then he's traded and Vesalainen comes in. Agree with the other posters that alone, Myers doesn't net you that and Enstrom likely doesn't make 4M but that's guesswork
