right but that CAP increase will be 100% negated by the 2M in overages. WPG needs every penny. It's why they didn't risk qualifying Morrow because he could have gotten 500K more likely in arbitration. Doesn't seem like much but Chevy is smart and is mindful of not wasting a single dime in cap space!

Jets can't do this...there's no accounting for Bonus overages which will screw them next year in signing Laine, Connor, Wheeler.. Need to shed approx 2M more in CAP space.

HAHAHA so you have to sign Connor, Scheif, "among others"... Ehlers (which you listed) is already signed. Trouba is NOT the piece you move because you have to sign others. Myers,Perrault, Little, Kulikov, Mason, hell even Buff would all be moved before Trouba. Plus he's stated he wants to be here now and doesn't want to go through the hold out thing so...I'll "get over it" if he's in fact traded but until then I'll take him at his word that he's being re-signed

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>johnnyu22</b></div><div>Silfverberg looks good in the Jets lineup, but probably not at the cost of a depth centre like Lowry. Even switching Lowry for Little/Perreault would probably make more sense strictly in terms of salary. I think that would make for the framework of a better trade and would get the jets a good replacement player so that they aren't missing any offense.</div></div>
People (Jets fans included) really underestimate the true value of Adam Lowry and the impact he has on the team. He is absolutely integral to this organizations future and likely doesn't cost much to re-sign long term which they absolutely should do! Silfverberg is great addition, but absolutely not at the cost of Lowry!

Winnipeg Roster Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>johnnyu22</b></div><div>I think that your two Trade proposals probably make a lot of sense, but I think that Chariot could probably actually fetch a little more than a 5th (maybe a 3rd or 4th) and could probably be added to any team in the league looking for a 5-6 tough defenseman who can play many situations. Agree that Niku and Vesalainen will need to draw in this year to clear up some cap space with their ELC's, but I also think that if the Jets are going to dump Mason, they might as well trade either Perreault (preferably) or Little for picks and cap space and work toward signing Stastny. Removing both may actually be necessary as the Jets prepare to lock up Wheeler and Laine next summer. Not sure if the math will really check out, but I hope so. The team needs a 2C if they want to be a cup contender, which could allow Roslovic to continue to develop on the wing.</div></div>
I'd love them to re-sign Stastny, but on top of the moves already made in this thread, you'd have to move 2 of Kulikov, Little, Perrault, and Myers just to make Stastnys numbers work. I think the Jets look at this year and think they want to change as little as possible for another shot at a deep run and hope Roslovic can play C between Connor and Wheeler who drive play well enough and let E-S-L take it to the house.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KoneDome</b></div><div>Okay, and I think taxes are even different there, but we are talking almost 30 million dollars....</div></div>
No after tax, the difference on a 7 year deal in TB vs 8 year deal in NYI is about 9M more to play in NYI. But again, that's an extra year in NYI vs TB. Post tax earnings if each team gave him a 7 year deal 11M from NYI vs 8.5M from TB the difference is less than 4M.

What you're failing to take into account is that NY has one of the highest tax brackets in the league and TB the lowest so the real difference in take home is about actually negligible over 7 years. The only advantage NYI has is they can give him the extra year. Even if they did the difference between an 8 year deal in NYI and 7 in TB TAKE HOME is about 9M

WPG LAK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>I'd like to see this trade happen one year down the road. As it is, the LAK don't look like they'll change much in a year, and I'd still rather find out what Roslovic turns into before we pull the trigger on one of our top 6 pieces.
That dude has gone and had an identical AHL career to Claude Giroux and his NHL numbers have been crazy. Scoring at a rate of 1.9P/60 is absurdly good for a guy who played bottom 6 minutes with little to no powerplay time last year. Like 1st line good if we didn't have one Mark Scheifele already stapled to that spot.
I love a good prospect, but if Vilardi's upside is as an elite 2C, he's probably 2 or more years from hitting that potential, and we have a prospect whose upside is also as an elite 2C but is further down the line in his development having played two pro seasons now, I'd use the leverage we have and hold out a year to make 100% sure we know what Roslovic projects as before we trade for a role we might already have.</div></div>
Problem with waiting is that if the Kings give him a chance and he has a good year the price goes up. Those kinds of C's are only available at the point he's at right now which is why this deal would have to happen now. Winnipeg takes the risk of seeing what he's like at the NHL because if you find out he can keep it up, Connor no longer gets it done. That and the fact the LAK likely will address the top line winger need this offseason due to the amount available

Trouba Stays at 80 Mil
I'll take a run at it for you. First off everyone you've signed to contract is respectable and could be reality. Myers is not getting re-signed so he's either traded this year for assets (my personal favorite option) or used as an own rental. Unfortunately as it stands right now you'll need to move money (approx 3.1M minimum) just for bonus purposes this year to ensure no overage next year. As it stands regardless of what happens Myers comes off the books for 5.5M CAP relief. The CAP should increase so lets just use a modest 2.5M increase there. Now we're sitting at 8M in space. Signings next year include Wheeler, Connor, and Laine as the 3 big raises due. Connor will jump to 5-6M, Laine likely gets 8-9, and since Wheeler is the biggest unknown lets leave that for a minute. For just those two guys you need 15M (on the high end). They already make about 1M each so the raise is 13M. That means 13M-8M is 5M more in space we need. First to go should be Kulikov if possible. Little would be another ideal but those two contracts will be hard to move (kulikov due to injury history and little due to NMC and term) but if you can move either or both thats a start. If you're lucky enough to move both Wheeler can be re-signed as a bonus to getting the others done but as long as you move 1 you get just about the amount of space you need for Laine and Connor (depending if it's Little or Kulikov). The other is Perrault. You wouldn't want to move him but might have to. Perrault is replaced with Vesalainen on an ELC, Chiarot with Niku or Morrow. The other option is to move Buff. Now if you're doing most of these moves it's best to do them this year while all those guys are off a great season/playoffs. Buffs value will never be higher and that 7.6M off the books would be very nice especially considering what kind of good young player or top picks you could probably get for him. Back to Wheeler. If the Jets don't win the cup this year, but again are close he may take the same money or give WPG a break contractually to give it a shot for a year or two. I could absolutely see that but it's up to him. Finally, Tanev and Armia are making too much money. Tanev will get a raise but if he goes to 1.7M per that's got to go. Tanev shouldn't come in at more than about 800-900K and if he does you've been fleeced. Armia also should be around 1M and if not you trade them too and replace with cheaper options for the 4th line like Lemieux, Dano, Appleton, etc.
So in summary and in order of guys you should move:
Mason-Myers-Kulikov-Chiarot-Little-Tanev-Armia-Perrault-Buff-Ehlers(added because this is a last resort but you could pull off a Drouin-Sergachev type deal with him).
5 Stars for making me type a paragraph response!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Why not give up nothing and resign stastny for about as much as duchene makes?</div></div>
Stastny likely gets too much with too much term on the open market. I'd love for that to happen but he'd have to take 5.5-6 for 1-2 years when some team will offer him 6+M for 4-7 years. Happens every year in FA and with top 6 C's and him and Tavares being the only two available his demand likely doesn't allow for him (again barring him taking a discount) re-signing in Winnipeg.

You've butchered the Jets by trading Connor and Ros and getting no value in return! Helm and Nyqvist are not worth what you've given up as both players have less control, and less talent than Connor and Ros. Sure you dumped some salaries but by trading Connor and Ros you've gotten worse in the short term and the long term!
From DET perspective...you take that all day every day laugh and say thanks WPG.

Realistic moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheCelt</b></div><div>I'd be on board with that.
You should consider extending Troubs and Morrissey the full 8. It would be much more beneficial to have him hit free agency as close to 32 and 31 as possible. His value takes a severe hit the further from 30 he gets and resigning him hopefully won't break the bank for us way, way down the line. 5 years has Trouba hit free agency as a 29 year old and then we could be screwed trying to sign him if these next few years end up being what Winnipeg fans are hoping for.
Other than that a couple creative differences, but I would be perfectly happy if all that came to pass.</div></div>
Though I agree and the 7-8 year terms are preferable, the players have to agree to them! Also the $ figure goes up and probably lands closer to 7M which doesn't work within this cup window as we need about 5M in Bonuses (Vesalainen bonus isn't accounted for here)

WPG would then be filling one hole by creating another. Trouba isn't moving and though the value may be fair, WPG is in win now mode not building mode so it's not about draft picks anymore expecially when Trouba is involved.

The deals do not make sense. If you trade Trouba, your Right side becomes weaker than your left and there's no long term solution as Myers gone next year then what? Connor played a bit of C back in junior but he's a winger not a C especially at a #2C. Also taking on that Lucic deal is HORRIBLE! 6M for a 3rd line soon to be 4th line winger for 5 more years isn't what the Jets need!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmyhay88</b></div><div>I like the thought of getting Tavares but I think I would rather them resign Stastny. Tavares-Scheif for 7 years for 4M more is WELL WORTH the price of admission. Myers replaced by Poolman I think is offensively a net negative as Myers is great offensively but a net positive defensively as Poolman has been really good in his own end. I'd take that trade off to get Tavares over Stastny any day of the week!
