Carolina becomes hot spot with cap space
Mr C. Despite all the FAs signed, the Carolina team probably couldn't make the playoffs.

Stamkos possibly taking a discount to stay?
Mr Nash. Your logic...."if they have cap" is illogical. In the "if they have cap" scenario, just mention all thirty teams. Would defeat the purpose of Armchair GM though. My team for next year includes Crosby, Malkin, Toews, Kane, Perry, Stamkos, Tavaras, Giroux, "depending on the cap."

Mr. Marloc....like your comments.
If Florida wants to spend big money on a winger, $ 7.8 million Nash's salary, $ 2 million retained salary, might as well make a pitch for Stamkos or some other free agent next year
Rangers should let Yandle walk, the Rangers have solid defencemen. Boyle and Yandle's departure will leave enough money for two competent defencemen signings.

Just trade Scuderiiiii
Rumors seem to be started by Armchair GMs. Mr. bredt. The two best things for the Pens would be Scuderi has a GREAT training camp and is a good player OR getting injured and is placed LTIR.

These two signings would be a good fit for the Preds. Might cost a little more money than you suggested but on a short term deal, fits the Preds perfectly.

But it doesn't make sense for those teams to acquire Scuderi. Why would they want him? Arizona and Carolina have budgets below the cap ceiling. They're not paying $3.6m for a guy that can't play. There are plenty of those for cheaper.
Mr. D D: I agree with you completely. My first comment was sarcastic, aimed at Armchair GMs would wish their problems away. Almost every team has some contract problem with some players. Scuds at $ 3.4 million a year for two years isn't super bad. Imagine the Leafs dilemma with Phanuef, $ 7 million a year for 6 more years.
And Scuderi isn't going to waive his NTC to go to some basement dwelling team anyways. Most likely scenario is he's a Penguin this season; even if it's as a healthy scratch. Unlikely they assign him to the AHL even though it'd clear almost $1m in cap space. Even less likely, he is traded (Buffalo is most probabe candidate IMO).</i></div></div>

Trading Scuderi to Colorado, Arizona, or Carolina makes sense cause because Pittsburg needs the cap space.
Trading JVR from Toronto to Chicago, Florida or Nashville for virtually nothing makes sense cause the Leafs are trying to tank so they are can get a better lottery pick
Free agents Stamkos, Seabrook, Koptitar will sign with Arizona, Carolina or New Jersey. This makes sense cause all teams have to spend to the cap.
New category for ditching contracts.....LTIR, for whatever reason. Chicago Black Hawk Management and Patrick Kane invented the "criminal story" in Buffalo, so the Hawks can put Kane on LTIR (Long Term In Restraints) for a few months so the Hawks can get below the salary cap. Kane can stay home and watch the Bills till Christmas.

Mr, Marloc: you don't like trees? Unfortunately for any free agents clubs that are "instant contenders" as you suggest, may not have enough salary cap room to spend $ 10 million on 1 player.

A first and 2nd for JVR is certainly not enough for the Leafs. A Chicago first is about 30th pick, not similar to a Leaf or Carolina first rounder.

Gents: The comments by Mr Peterman say hi to Elaine for me and Mr Marco are accurate. Robadias and Scuderi is a trade of soon to be ineffective defencemen with the same contract. Mr Marloc's trade could be adjusted to a Dman who is closer to NHL ready such as Percy, Hunwick or Granberg (though injured). Scuderi's exit must include pick/prospect as suggested by Mr Marloc.

Mr Russian: Malkin is a top three center on the Penguins not in the NHL. Crosby, Malkin Datsyk, Tavaros,Getzalk,Kopitar,Toews,Backstrom,Giroux,Johnson,Johanson,Pavelski,Stamkos. Hard to put Malkin top eight now. Admitting Toews may be overpaid, but isn't Malkin at 9.5m a year? Malkin has the forth lowest plus minus of the top 20 scoring centers. Lowest face off winning % of the top 20 scoring centres. He is a good player and a very good power play specialist. Talk about Weber's decline. Trying to keep Malkin on the ice for a full season has been a challenge recently.

My opinion Stamkos can be signed for much less. Who has the cap space to sign him, especially a contending team?</i></div></div> I think Stamkos is definitely going to go for the Toews/Kane contract, as will Tavares the following summer... it set the market value for a franchise player of their caliber, and I'm doubtful he takes a hometown discount.
On the Callahan front, I'm a Rangers fan... trust me when I tell you he is not all he is cracked up to be haha. He was snake-bitten for most of the playoffs this year (granted he had an injury) and he did not perform like a nearly $6 million player in the regular season. 54 points simply not good enough, and his grinding/shot-blocking style of play will have his knees shot and him slower than everyone else in less than 2 years. The fact that the team he captained didn't even sign him speaks volumes. It was Girardi or Callahan, and Sather and co. knew their captain wasn't worth the money, term or most importantly he risk. I think he will be left unprotected in the expansion draft.</i></div></div>
Rob. Not denying he will ASK has for Toews money. (Kane may be making thirty five cents a day). But there will be very few teams that will have cap money to spend for Stamkos. And the few that actually have the cap room may not want to offer him his top dollar. Will Stamkos go to a team that is absolutely crappy if he offered 20% more? Don't know. Let's imagine that Arizona or Carolina offers him 10.5m, does TBay offer more than let's say 8.5m, (their max offer) so they can sign their RFAs? We'll never know. Personally I think he stays in TB for 8m a year.

REALISTIC 16-17 WITH TRADES
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drew7719</b></div><div><i>The Brown trade to Boston wasnt necessarily saying thats where he should absolutely go..kind of just a toss up on the team. Makes sense why they would want a player like Brown though when they lost Lucic. Brown can definitely still compete and make an impact in games. Plus, after the 15-16 season Boston will have close to $23 mil WITHOUT taking into consideration the raise in the cap. They would be able to afford Brown.</i></div></div>
Sorry Drew...a declining Brown, 11 goals last year, on the wrong side of 30 years, is not an impact player. Yes the Bruins will have 23m plus to sign next year, but they have to sign 11 players to reach a 23 man roster. We will have to wait and see,but if the Leafs can't move Phanuef/Lupul, the Hawks can't move Bickell, the Pens can't Scuderi and maybe Kunitz, think how impossible it will be to move Brown. Just not happening.

Leaving on a jet plane
You asked why why you received a one on this trade. I never graded your trade...BUT Winnipeg has a fairly deep team with young prospects. They have no use for waiver wire Dman Erixon and the slow moving Lovejoy. Kunitz doesn't really improve the Jets much. Byfuglien, can be a dominant Dman (at least at times), entering his UFA young. The Jets hope to make a run deeper in the playoffs, so they don't want to weaken their team this year, If anything they can get a deal at trade deadline for BUF.
