Benning's 2016/17 Canucks-- From a Pessimistic Van Fan

Description
My pessimistic prediction of the Canucks roster this time next year. The team will be several points out of a playoff spot at the 2016 deadline, but against all logic they'll 'go for it' and Benning won't get any assets back for Hamhuis, Vrbata or Prust and they'll walk for nothing as UFA's after the team misses the playoffs. He'll re-sign only his RFA's and cheaper UFA's in order to have cap space for a long-term deal for Lucic. With his skills already on the decline, Milan's UFA rights will be acquired at the 2016 draft in a bad trade where Benning loses another 2nd round pick. Mr. Aquilini and Mr. Linden, I'm available on an advisory level in case you need to make a management change. Just saying.

Good luck with Brandon Sutter. Expect a lot of shots from the right side on the rush. He will score goals from there, however, the man does not get assists. I'm not sure he's a 2nd Line center either.

Agreed, he's a 3rd liner at best, but the management are convinced otherwise. Honestly my hope is that the Canucks are so far out of it by the deadline that they really don't have a choice but to sell off assets.

Another issue is that Sutter is just a rail. He doesn't fight for the puck, and he won't out hit the other team either. So he doesn't really have a place on the 3rd line either. He does have some scoring touch, but that's rare. Goals tend to come in bunches for him, or none at all. He's just not a playmaker. He's almost better suited for winger duties in some regards.

As odd as it sounds, I thought about the prospect of having him play the right wing with the Sedins. They possess in spades a lot of the qualities that he seems to lack, but if he can put passes from them in the back of the net and be halfway responsible defensively he could be a guy that takes that wing spot from Vrbata/Burrows, and Horvat can rightfully take his place as the second-line center.
