That is a horrible package for Nuge AND Klefbom. The Pens have no use for RNH anyways, they have 2 top 5 C's in the NHL, they don't need another C who will be a 1C in the future. Unless he plays wing which I doubt he would.
And Tampa would surely get a better offer than that for Steven Stamkos....

Why not 8 years and 8 million per year for this super-megastar Yandle? If you overspend on a player, do it properly.

Yeah, sure. Mr. Y will give the Pens a Top 6 forward for a borderline NHL talent, a goalie talent and a pick. Sure. Dream on.

healthy fehr & giving bennett a chance
Why are you so hell-bent on trade guys to make cap room which involves a pick demotion?!
I could somewhat understand the Scuds trade because nobody would want him but there is no way GMJR would demote a pick and give up a player to make cap room
Secondly, I have no idea what brought you to make that Lovejoy trade. He has a reasonable cap hit (1.1M) so why ship him out. If you're going to get rid of him at least get a Dman in return. With the current D situation in Pittsburgh (including you're addition of Franson), you can't just trade defensemen with no return all 'willy-nilly', who do you think you are? Jim Benning?
Ridiculous.

nugent hopskins deal, is it fair?
Ya I don't see why Edmonton need another smaller skilled forward. Also I would never move a 22 year old center who has had to play 1st line minutes in the western conference pretty much his whole carrer and has still put up an admirable point total.
Also having a 4th liner make 4 million dollars is pretty crazy

I would venture it would take Pouliot+ for the Pens to get Shattenkirk. Say Pouliot, Sprong, and a 2nd?</i></div></div>
I was trying to stay away from pouliot because I thought that would be a little counter productive from the Penguins stand point but it would make the trade a lot more appealing to the blues. The Penguins would much rather include another 1st round pick and Bennett instead of pouliot

Very close. Won't try again cause it's not a bad deal. Feel free to comment intelligently.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jacobzentner</b></div><div><i>Trade rust as well, if you trade for Rattie you should play him.</i></div></div>
Go ahead put Rust in he deal too and put Rattie in his spot.</i></div></div>
First off, its just lazy to list a trade for Scuderi and not even come up with a viable trade. That's the hardest part of the Pens job right now... Finding a viable trade offer for Scuderi.
Second, you are VASTLY undervaluing both Shattenkirk and Rattie. Shattenkirk was at one point a Norris contender last year before his injury and lead the league in scoring among defensemen. Why on earth would STL trade him for a struggling prospect in Bennett, an aging and struggling (not to mention overpaid) winger in Kunitz, and an admittedly good defensive prospect in Dumoulin? And then also throw Rattie into the mix?</i></div></div>
This guy gets it

Thoughts
Even if we assume the Leafs are guaranteed to re-sign him I still don't think I'd do it. The 1st round pick figures to be top 5-10 (I think more around 5), Nylander's upside is very high, plus Gardiner and JVR seems like too much. Even if it's not, who is left for him to play with? The Leafs have some building left to do before making a move like this, IMO.

Both deals make no sense whatsoever for the other team.

Signing a defenseman for anything more than 1 year would be a mistake. They should just continue to let their players develop. They have a solid team now and will likely be a contender in a couple years. Feels strange saying that about Columbus but they're building a very strong team

Kunitz gone
And by circumstances of the other teams... I mean Carolina is a relatively small market team that can't spend to the ceiling every year. They can't waste over 7 million in cap space and salary (Scuds, Kunitz, and Bennett) on players that NO ONE in Carolina will even buy a $15 player t-shirt of. And then what's the probability of that LOW first round pick being a player worth anything? They don't make their money back. Their is no future for them in that deal. Bad risk. And ontop they are retaining 3 million of Staal's salary? A team would never accept that trade.
Come on dude... I'm sure they thought critical thinking (or rather just common sense) at your school.

That's so bad for Carolina... a low first round pick, some other picks and 3 players who aren't worth a damn for Staal at 3 million? Wow.
And that NTC next to Scuds' name means he won't go to a team like Carolina anyways. And it's not listed on this site, but Kunitz also has a NTC, and he wouldn't go either.
I wish people would stop pretending we can ship off our garbage and act like the details of their contracts and the circumstances of the teams who receiving them don't matter.

Nashville Gets stamkos
Keep in mind Nashville has an internal budget that's less than the cap and they still need to sign Forsberg. Plus, Montreal, NYI, Detroit, Calgary, San Jose, and Toronto would all likely be able to fit him in after this season.
Point being though, a franchise like Nashville can't afford to gamble away a franchise d-man + prospects and picks because Stamkos might sign with them.

Seabrook to oilers
Oilers are rebuilding, Hawks are contending. Neither team wants this trade. I mean, obviously the Hawks would like Klefbom for the future if it didn't cost a roster player, and the Oilers wouldn't mind having Seabrook either. But the Oilers aren't winning right now with or without Seabrook.
