Signing Jack Campbell
Campbell has<strong> 118 career games played</strong> with a .920 save percentage. That's his resume. And the three netminders that seem to fit these criteria and have also recently signed extensions appear to be Jordan Binnington, Linus Ullmark, and Cal Petersen.
Campbell in for a four- or five-year deal for just shy of $5 million, but he could push that AAV north if he posts a Vezina-calibre performance, which right now, he is not (last nine starts .899 SV% and 3.00 GAA).
Frederik Andersen: 2 years, $9 million ($4.5 million cap hit)
Cal Petersen: 3 years, $15 million ($5 million cap hit)
Elvis Merzlikins: 5 years,$27 million ($5.4 million cap hit)
Philipp Grubauer: 6 years, $35.4 million ($5.9 million cap hit)
My guess, Campbell signs a 4 year 5,250,000 AAV in <strong>TORONTO</strong>

Signing Jack Campbell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>He has just as impressive resume (if not more) than Hellebuyck when he signed his 6-year, $6M+ deal. Campbell's playoff numbers last year were insane. It's not his fault the rest of the Leafs didn't show up for that series.
If Campbell carries the Leafs to the Conference finals or beyond this year, then he's worth even more IMO.</div></div>
Im just saying if we look at when Markstrom got 6mill x 6 years he took the Canucks to the round 3 (technically) and had 2 previous 50 game seasons. Campbell has not done that yet. This is his first true season as the starter. Hes never played more than 35 games in a starting role and so it makes things tricky. Has he done well so far in the role yes. But we got to tread carefully as look at the Blues. Binnington won a cup got 6mill then fell off a cliff. While Campbell has not done that his numbers have begun to drop. Not saying this will continue but rn I see 5.5mill x 5 years being fair considering many goalies signed for 5-5.9mill.
Like am I saying he cant get 6mill no. What im saying is rn I dont think hes earned it yet. This is the season though to prove it and he has delivered to some degree. Lets just hope this slump does not continue. But still 5.5mill x 5 years aint bad. Would get him more than Ullmark, Saros, and a tad less than Shesterkin whose leading the Vezina vote and is making 5.6mill

Off-Season Oil Changes
Honestly, I like that trade for us. Yes, the Islanders are very offensively challenged. With some exceptions, they tend to have little to no offense. If that trade goes through, if I was Lou, I'd sign Yamamoto to a 1 year, $2 million deal with RFA status at the end of the season, just to see if his game changes under Barry's direction. If he does well, sign him to a long term deal, if not, find a way for him to walk or trade him in the 2023 TDL or off season

Oh for sure too many moving parts, just saw it accomplishes things for both teams
For the Ducks, we get good value for Rakell/Manson and either flip Dadonov/Smith for more assets or keep a "competitive" roster with the surprising season the Ducks are having.
Gets VGK under the cap enough for Eichel, brings in a replacement for Smith while shedding cap and also upgrades the blueline and back up goalie for cheap
I definitely had too much time on my hands here

These are pretty well thought out. I, however, am sceptical on the Chiarot trade. I have heard nothing from guys close to the Panthers indicating they're overly interested in him. Only the bits from LeBrun from, like, November.
With the market overflowing with great defensemen, I see the price dropping or the Panthers targeting someone else. It's a buyer's market, since practically all of the playoff teams are already clear.

Ducks Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>Lol. No it's not.
Ristolainen went for about the same price and Manson is miles better. Right handed defence are at a premium and certainly good ones start at a 1st. Dermott is a 7th defenceman for Toronto, and Villeneuve isn't a highly ranked prospect. It's actually not a bad price at all.
"Value" is a debatable term. People on here try to say what a player is worth based on their skill and role, which is always highly controversial. Each team is going to value players completely different - that's why Tampa "overpaid" for Coleman and Goodrow because they were seen as very valuable to them for what they needed, when fans solely base it on skill and role.
Based on that, I'm sure Toronto is absolutely comfortable making this deal. Anaheim has reportedly set the price high and they'll be many suitors for Manson, so I don't see this as enough for them to consider it</div></div>
That's pretty much where I'm at. Dermott doesn't really add anything to the deal that Anaheim leaves, and is basically just there for salary purposes. If the Leafs had someone on a 1 year deal that they wanted to dump, I've got no issue with that. Ritchie definitely isn't the guy though.
With the Leafs, I can absolutely understand being wary of moving a 1st-Pretty solid odds that they'll be facing one of Tampa or Florida in the first round, so the odds of making it through are probably slim anyway.

Just say you don’t like the player because, again, I don’t think he would’ve been at the WC if he was “on his best day” a replacement 4th line player.

Ya, for sure. It was questionable that they gave up that much for them, but it worked out extremely well. The leafs, I think, should get a Bogo replacement and a top 4 d at the deadline. Maybe a depth forward. That would help a lot.

You need psychical guys in the playoffs. Not saying they should go and trade all their players for 4th line grinders of course. But you a couple tough guys. One or two adds would probably be enough, really (people over state how soft the leafs are). Bogosian would have been great to keep. Getting another player like him would be a good add.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>I think both of you are undervaluing Paul’s game. Ritchie’s contract is dead weight. That’s why he was out on waivers and likely also why he cleared. Paul has never and probably will never be on waivers but if he was then I promise you he would get claimed.
At face value the numbers are similar but their impacts on the game are not. There’s a reason that this summer Paul was playing for Canada at the WC and <strong>Ritchie was left as a free agent for most of the summer. </strong>Toronto circled back to him because no one wanted him for his asking price… and I think the lack of a waiver claim confirms that.
That said, I do agree that the difference isn’t a 1st. I think the poster may have been trying to combine a Paul trade and Toronto paying for a Ritchie cap dump.</div></div>
2021 free agency started on July 28th. Ritchie was signed on July 31st... how is that most of the summer?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>I honestly don't see the fit for Klingberg at all in Toronto. You say he's excellent on the PP but he wouldn't get any time in Toronto on it. Rielly already has the 1st unit locked down and he's not being moved off it, and Sandin has been a great fit on the 2nd unit. The Leafs currently have the top PP in the league so I don't think they're primary ads will be for a PP specialist defenceman like Klingberg, it just doesn't make sense.
As for the injury situation (which is bound to happen cause Muzzin is fragile every playoffs), Klingberg doesn't really fit that either. When Muzzin goes down, Toronto needs a defensive reliable replacement and Klingberg is the furthest thing from that. Add in the fact that he'll be looking at at least $6.5M - $7M as a free agent and it makes him a pure rental, just doesn't seem like a fit at all unless the price was extremely low (which it obviously won't be)</div></div>
You broke down every point very well here and this is exactly how I feel about adding Klingberg to the Leafs. Bad fit generally and even worse if injuries are taken into account.
Perhaps there just isn't the type of D available that the Leafs need for a playoff run at this deadline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>I honestly don't get how people don't see that Klingberg is the furthest thing from a fit in Toronto. He's Tyson Barrie 2.0 which didn't work cause he'd be relegated to the 2nd PP unit (maybe - Sandin is likely the guy there) and not get the ice time he needs to produce. He's horrendous defensively 5v5 so he doesn't fit that need at all. & they're especially not giving up Robertson + 1st + a useful NHL dman for him. Klingberg and Holl would have the same role on the Leafs so why give up the rest?
That being said, as a Stars fan what's your opinion on this idea:
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2960291</div></div>
I did respond to your trade idea (which was decent tbh) in your post
I kinda think Klingberg will eventually make his way to Leafs first PP. He's excellent in those situations, and I'd argue he's much better than Barrie. Closer to Rielly really, but not as defensively responsible.
I agree that the fit might not be the best possible, but I'd argue adding Klingberg would make this team better, and offensively deeper as latest playoffs for the Leafs have seriously taken a hit by injuries towards their top3 D-men, in particularly with Muzzin.

Let the kid have the entire year off at a minimum. 3 concussions in his 37 game career is not good for his health. COL needs to force him to shutdown at least until the start of next season. It's not the fun hockey move, but it's for his own health.

Trust me, I know leafs fans can be a little stupid.
But Mayfield is AT BEST, the 4th best D man on the Islanders. You're likely getting a 2nd and a very good prospect for him, there's no world where he returns a first. Chiarot is different because that's a pro-rated 1 year deal where it doesn't matter after July 1st (in a normal year, I know free agency doesn't start this year until like the 14th)

You're doing okay <em>trying</em> to send enough to Montreal. The problem is the retention. Montreal would be better off taking less than retaining on Toffoli.
His value doesn't go up by one notch with retention, it goes up a few notches. His contract wouldn't be good, it would be amazing. The difference between good and amazing is significant.
That said, you shouldn't even be looking for retention on Toffoli because of the inflation of the price to acquire him. Figure the money out elsewhere if necessary. It's easier to shave $2M off your roster than it is to acquire $2M in retention for multiple years.

Only two years of retention for that haul, I'd be banging that 'Deal' button as fast as Bill Cosby was assaulting women.
