Shattenkirk
I refuse to accept that Backes is going to be shoehorned into the lineup. Rowney is a much better player. Backes should be parked in the minors so we have more room for Jones or Comtois to be in the lineup.
I'm pretty happy with the blueline. I think Shattenkirk will be a real nice addition. Now here's to hoping 17-18 Manson shows up again...

As a Ducks fan though I'd decline this deal. We need offense as much as anybody and Silvy is our most consistent scorer. And I'm not interested in more draft picks unless they're in exchange for assets we have in abundance (i.e. bottom-pairing d-men). This year needs to be about growth, not tearing things down. Especially since we only have one more season of cap-hell to suffer through.

Another Offer We Cant Refuse
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>It's not that bad: we'd owe Backes and Eriksson each $2.5 million. Then after this (next) season, Backes drops off and we'd only owe Perry $2 million and Eriksson $2.5 million. In exchange, my thinking goes, we get to keep all of our young skaters through the expansion draft and we have Virtanen as long as we want him, plus the second-round draft pick.
Vancouver gets much-needed cap relief, so they would be more than happy with this deal. This allows them to re-sign Pettersson and Hughes without strain in 2021 and keep Markstrom and Toffoli this year if they want to (and Tanev and Stecher, or sign their replacements).</div></div>
But do we really need Virtanen? His presence just crowds the ranks with the slew of homegrown young forwards we have whom we're trying to develop into solid contributors. Plus he has arbitration rights which I'm sure Murray isn't keen about. I'd welcome Demko but I can't fathom why Vancouver would want to part with him before they get their starting goalie problem fix first. I get that they desperately need cap space and Eriksson is clearly someone they'd like to get rid of but this just seems like a lot to give up to simply unload his contract. And besides, I feel like Murray executed his one "Hey, I'll take that bloated contract off your hands for a sweet asset" move in acquiring Backes. There's only so many of those guys I can tolerate sitting in the press box.

We already have dead-weight in Backes and Perry's buyout hit, now we have to take on Eriksson too? The idea of spending $15 on those three next year depresses the hell out of me. We gain nothing we need out of this trade other than a backup goalie and that should be easy enough to accomplish with the many hitting the market in October (man that feels weird to type).
And from Vancouver's side they get practically nothing since Sideroff is a total bust and picks beyond the fifth round are basically useless.

Projected Lineup 2020-2021
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>Every team has injuries. The top 5 teams in point sure per man games lost this year were Pittsburgh, CBJ, Colorado, Arizona and St Louis all of which finished well ahead of Anaheim despite suffering more significant injuries.</div></div>
Like I said, that's not to say this team should be a contender because we're not deep like these the teams you mentioned clearly were. There's very little margin for error with the Ducks but this roster as it stands right now is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. This is may be, more or less, the roster that finished the season but that doesn't mean Murray didn't make strides to improve the roster, he just did it at the deadline. If this team stays relatively healthy and the younger guys finally play with consistency, this team should at the very least hang around fighting for a playoff spot by season's end, especially if Gibson is back to form.

Projected Lineup 2020-2021
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>The roster is the same as last year's team that finished near the bottom nothing was added to it. Getzlaf and Henrique are a year older and no new young blood with high upside has been added to the lineup to give hope that the team can improve. This roster would definitely finish near the bottom and that may be the goal but that was my observation.</div></div>
This is not at all the team that started the season, nor does it take into account he injuries the team suffered throughout the season, the assumed progression of young players like Terry, Steel and Jones or the how well (relatively) this group was playing before the shutdown. That's not to suggest we should expect this group to compete for a playoff spot but they should have a much better result than the last two seasons.
In regards to this roster though, there's not a chance Matt Irwin is retained, especially at the expense of Djoos and Larsson not playing. But otherwise this is what the roster should look like, minus Grant. I don't think he's coming back.

As a Ducks fan I'd accept the Trouba trade. I'd rather keep Guddy especially if we're eating salary and getting scraps for return. But I get the need to fit Trouba under the cap so someone has to go. Man, Getzy's contract can't expire soon enough.

Manson's game has taken a serious hit the last two years and is a big contributor to why this team has struggled, not necessary the other way around as you suggest. Mans has one really good year coming off the heels of showing steady improvement since breaking into the league. But he got paid and got married and it seemed to stop. I'm hoping the old Mans comes back around but I think a team would be crazy to commit a first to acquire him until he proves his carriage didn't turn back into a pumpkin.

What in the holy hell are the Ducks supposed to do with NINE first rounders and FOUR second rounders over the next two seasons? Might as well trade away the rest of our picks because there literally won't be room in the organization for all of them. Never mind how unnecessarily awful this team will be for half a decade. AND capped out!

I don't know. I mean he's been really good with the Gulls and he has decent enough numbers in the limited time he's spent in the NHL but Gibby is injury-prone. I'd feel much more comfortable with a proven veteran as our backup. I'd like to believe Stolarz is ready to make the jump to full-time backup but that is a fairly decent gamble at this point.

Maybe I've been out of the rumor loop too long but why does everyone assume CBOs are going to be a thing? Everything I've read suggests it's not even up for debate with owners. But even if it were, why do so many people think the Ducks would be interested in doing one, especially for another team's bad contract? I'm honestly asking because this baffles me.

Why in the hell are we just giving away Silvy like that? Especially when you don't make any corresponding moves to replace his reliable offense. Any trade trade for Silvy starts with a first and that's non-negotiable. There's zero pressure to move on from him.

Rebuild in Duck Pond
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stanley_Cup_To_Manhattan</b></div><div>I don't think you are familiar with the term "Rebuild".</div></div>
Show me an example where a team made as many drastic changes in one offseason and actually built a winner. And we've been rebuilding. This is a total tear down. And it also signals to the crop of young players we've been cultivate for the last several years, whom are finally being put into a position to step up, that they aren't going to be part of any winning hockey for at least 3-4 years and this critical stage in their young careers are going to be wasted on a total loser of a team. What was the point of collecting all of these assets the last several years to just burn the team to the ground?
This team has an above-average goalie, a solid d-core that needs just a quality player to fill out the ranks and a bunch of promising young forwards to go with a handful of quality yet. What they need is a stud top-5 pick, which we're in a great position of achieve later this month, and time for these kids to mature. Making all of these moves sets us back to square one and then we're the Sabers. Except the Sabers have a much more forgiving fanbase. This fanbase will not stand such a bad team for such a prolonged time.

Obviously his game is in decline. He's 35 lol. But if he can come out this year and put up a similar season next yeat, would a 1 year deal at around $3 million be the worst thing the Ducks could do? I think not.</div></div>
Obviously I disagree. His point-totals look okay, I guess, but it's play that's striking to me. He shows a clear lack of effort these days and all the losing doesn't seem to bother him. That's unacceptable from your captain. I mean if he actually wanted to play another year at like 3 mil that would be that big of a deal but at that point I feel like you'd be doing it just for old time's sake. Better to just move on and use that money and roster spot on someone younger and pass the torch to the next captain.

Oh god, hard pass on all of this. So the plan to improve a mediocre team is to trade EVERY quality veteran minus Gibson and Fowler for basically a bunch of draft picks and prospects? And what the hell are they supposed to do with all of those picks? No team tears their team down this badly and actually makes a winner out of the ashes. You know you can actually can have too many quality prospects. There are only so many spots on an AHL roster, these kids have to play top minutes. There's a reason why teams never have SEVEN picks in the first two rounds! And never mind how unbelievably awful this team would be next season. Yikes.

Sure we need another top-4 D-man, preferably a RHD, but there's really no reason to cut bait on Manson. Kapanen produces as much as Ricky but without the same potential. If we're going to be moving Ricky and Lars we might as well pair them up to acquire a quality d-man as well as retain Manson if we intend to improve rather than making moves for the sake of making them.

Take advantage of the biggest asset
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>So you'd rather spend it on 28-29 year old UFA's that (based off most NHL GM's July 1 signings) will become cap dumps within a few years when the team is legitimately ready to win, but before then they just give us false senses of hope and ruin our chances at getting a high lotto pick, and unless we get like Petro or Hall, no UFA is gonna make that big of a difference to this team next summer... Every cap dump I took on was 1 year, and we got essentially a free first and a few other picks... And the first two trades aren't really necessary, I just would rather play the kids assuming they're ready, and it's not like Larsson is that valuable of a piece... He's a button pairing guy with LOW end top 4 ceiling... And on this team he's stuck behind Lindholm, Fowler*, and possibly Guhle and Mahura, along with LaCombe in a few years...</div></div>
I wouldn't spend it on any free agent. We're not in desperate need for draft picks. I mean I wouldn't say no to another first but not at the expense at being so capped out. You can only stockpile so many teenagers, we don't need another first that badly. As for Larsson, I'm entirely opposed to moving him, just not for futures. D-men take a long time to develop and I'm sick and tired of moving young d-men only for them to finally flourish elsewhere. Not saying Larsson is definitely going to go that route but if we are going to pull off that kind of trade again it should be to fill an immediate hole. Because what's the end game? Trade him for a pick to draft a kid that we have to wait and develop? I'd much rather package him, Boston's 1st and Ricky for a top-pairing d-man (if that could even get the job done). Unless we have a crystal ball and know he's not going to progress beyond his level of play right now but we don't. I was stoked about the Pettersson trade at the time because I thought we were cutting bait on a kid who would never be strong enough to handle this league and getting good value for him. Ha! I think it's still too early to give up on Larsson, especially considering his progress this year.
If Murray has the green light to spend money like you're suggesting he should try to actually improve this team. There's no reason this team can't be competitive next year. These kind of moves just signal another tank year and I think that'll be counter-productive.

Let me get this straight... So we're taking on no less than three big cap hits, to go along with Backes and the huge bump from Perry's buyout, trading away two quality depth players, a promising young d-man who's just starting to settle in for basically some drafts picks and zero cap flexibility? Because this is basically our team now when healthy. We already have two first rounders and we had two last year. If we're going to use our cap space to our advantage, shouldn't we use it make our team better now? If we're just doing it to acquire picks that seems like a waste of money. Never mind the fact that this would be behavior completely out of character for this team. Buying out Perry and taking on Backes were already bold moves for this team.
