<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsFanForSomeReason</b></div><div>To me, standing pat just shouldn't be an option. We all seem to agree - this team, as it stands, is not good enough to reasonably expect to make a run. Doing nothing in that scenario is just unacceptable. You'd be basically just signing up for a wasted season, barring a miracle.
Either decide fill some of those holes (*guys with term*) to better your team before the playoffs or sell off expiring assets. They need to improve their position in some form.</div></div>
Ya...thinking they won't sell vs thinking they should are different....I agree that they probably should...it could be an interesting message to the dressing room...you guys haven't given the effort so we're not committing to this group for this year. But generally speaking I'm okay with keeping expiring contracts while going into the deadline in a playoff spot. No problems with treating them as our own rentals as the expense of not recouping some assets
But I just don't think they will actually sell. I think Shanny would veto a sell off while they're still a playoff team. Not agreeing with it, just don't see this front office committing to that strategy

He wouldn't be in the NHL if he wasn't signed until the end of eternity. Completely ruined his reputation unfortunately.

Well, so much for my McLeod trade idea. Sounds like Michael is in fact involved. Foote too

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>I've been wanting to bring in Parayko ever since that World Cup on team North America. There'd be a fair amount of risk for either side making a deal on him. I'd think STL would need to want to go full re-build if they wanted to move him + retain....as if they're just looking to re-tool they'd end up looking for another Parayko type anyway.
and...hypothetically...Morgan is a great comparable when thinking trade return....Morgan had a very rough regular season last year...if he had another middling type of year this year and the leafs were a non-playoff team...would we be content with a 1st rounder and pending UFA? Probably not...it would probably be more worth it to hang on to him and hope he returns to form.
There are differences for sure...Morgan has been a top pairing guy for several years and proven himself vs Parayko who seemed to battle it a bit once Pietrangelo left and his role/minutes increased...but I would think it would take a lot more robust package than TJ and a first and wouldn't count on any retention.
It makes it a very tough transaction to pull the trigger on given the risk.</div></div>
He has one of the worst deals in the league. There might be a useful player in there somewhere but he needs to come about as cheap as Burns did and with a similar amount of retention for me to even consider. That length still scares the **** out of me.
That would work out to being something like c prospect, c prospect, 3rd for 6.5@4.3 Parayko, aged out c prospect

McLeod would be nice so long as he’s clean of the 2018 WJC incident. It bugs me that he’s one of the only players who has not commented (or at least not outright denied involvement)</div></div>
Didn't realise that he was one of the guys involved. Yeah as long as he is clean I'm cool with it. Both him and his brother on this team would be awesome

I mentioned I'd look at McCleod as well. Good bottom 6 centre. Right handed too.
Michael at 3C and Ryan at 2LW would be awesome. Very fast players

Look, Im not a huge fan of Keefe (not a huge hater either), but pegging the blame on him is ridiculous. This team just straight up sucks lmfao. It reminds me a ton of the 2017-18 Avs. Great bunch of guys, they just suck for some reason.
Need to sort out the goaltending and identity. A big trade would assist in that big time, but we aren't doing anything of that sort. Take a page out of the Raptors book and do what is best for the team

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsFanForSomeReason</b></div><div>Cannot disagree more with that. Keefe completely flipped the Leafs into a top 10 defensive team over the past couple seasons. They <em>have</em> played with great structure under him. No coach is perfect but he's far from the problem, as he's proven with his regular season track record. The fact of the matter is that this team, as it's assembled, just isn't that good.
The 4th line is a mess of crap. There's no adequate matchup line or shut down pair. The defensive acumen from both the blueline and forward group has taken a huge hit and the depth scoring didn't improve all that much.
You make that argument about going from Boudreau to Tocchet as if Keefe didn't do the exact same thing with the Leafs. They have the 4th best record in the league since he was hired.</div></div>
Honestly I don’t care what happens to Keefe. He’s not great, he’s not horrible. He’s about as average of a coach as you could get. He’s also, like you said, not even close to the biggest problem with this team. Not sure why we’re suddenly focusing on him.

Cause if hes doing defense just swap him and Malhotra and have the Canes guy run defense and PK
But at this point Berube is what they need. A hard head old school coach who took the Blues on the run of a century to win the cup for the first time since 1967
Its destiny</div></div>
Mike Van Ryn runs the Dcore (even to the point of telling Keefe to put McCabe out on 3v3)
I have zero confidence in Mike Van Ryn outside of someone finally taking the training wheels off Liljegren

VGK fired Gallant in January with a 24-19-6 record. Keefe's rn 21-11-8
As yes its only been 2 games but two multi goal leads blown where your team dominated the first period
0 adjustment as it seems Keefe is allergic to when a team pushes back
And not rewarding the bottom 6 who actually looked good these past two
Holmberg was having the best 2 games of his life and u dont put him in the top 6 to maybe create a spark and instead in a classic Keefe move shove Nylander with Matthews and Marner who also didnt look good tonight
<strong>Gimmie Berube</strong></div></div>

Since extensions seem to be the hot topic on here at the moment, I want to point out that Brad is not scared to take calculated risks when it comes to extending young players. Look at the Rasmus Andersson contract for example. Knies is the hot topic here at the moment, but I don't think he's going to be a candidate for a long term extension simply because it will be robbing him of money. His team isn't going to bite on that kind of a deal. I could see a 3 - 4 year contract that buys up his remaining RFA years before a long term deal is put into place. It is a much better scenario for the player (barring a gross overpay).
Now, the one player I could see getting a long extension this offseason is Timothy Liljegren. Watch for him to get a 6 - 7 year deal Rasmus Andersson style.
