Go check Matt's first 6 years vs Brady's first 6. Matthew blew up with Gaudreau and Lindholm for 1 year, but Brady has been more consistent. Throw in that Matt forced his hand with the sign and trade and Brady is easily worth more. Contracts matter a lot and that's where Brady gets a lot of his value from.

Look at Gaudreau and Lindholm since Tkachuk left. They both regressed

Matthew in Calgary had 33 more points in 9 less games than Brady has in his career. Matthew is also significantly better defensively (Matthew’s worst xGA/60 year in Calgary is still better than Brady’s best in his career)

Brady is not worth more than Matthew was. It’s not even close

Matthew at 9.5x8 is a much better deal than Brady at 8.2x4 considering Matthew provides like 4-5 mill more of vakue

Matthew did not have a contract when he was traded, he forced his way out of Calgary. If he was locked in for 4 years he would have gotten much more. Contracts matter, and Brady has a very good one. Ottawa is not trading him unless they get blown away, end of story.

Tkachuk doesn't have a NMC until July 1 next year. So if the Sens have any indication he wants out then they trade him before that - wherever they get the best offer from. And at that point yes, the offers would be less. But this is this year, and right now Brady wants to be in Ottawa so they have to be blown away to trade him.

Plus if Brady wants out it sure as hell won't be for NJ - he'll go for Vegas, St Louis, Dallas, Florida, NYR easily before NYC little brother over in NJ.
