Those Jersey trade are coming from one side only not the other way.

Let's ask: Is Alex Holtz worth 10th OA in this draft? No! So what is our GM going to pay more when there is less pressure to do so? He's not!
If Ullmark is valued at a '25 1st and a small add Markstrom is less

Care to elaborate at all as to why? They’re stacked with Prospects & Picks and could use a Proven Young Goal Scoring Stud who’s prime for a long-term contract…

Go ahead and glorify Ullmark all you want simply because he’s younger, but he’s already said no to playing for NJD and CF has him as an 841A vs. Markstrom’s 901A. I doubt Saros gets moved this off-season either, so…

With 50% retention and the 28th Overall Pick, my offer is close to 3x late 1st Round Picks, which is worth more than 10OA, so we’d need something back and Stillman isn’t even that good of a Prospect. Flames can add a 2nd if it’s Holtz instead.

Where's the 3rd late 1st? Certainly not a 1st for unretained Markstrom lmao

Because the sharks are in a rebuild. They’re not trading away the 14th overall pick and the prospect they got in the Hertl trade for Yegor Sharangovich.

Sure, why not!? Dominik Hasek was Traded Unretained for more than a late 1st when he went to DET. He was 35.5 years old and had a Cap Hit of like $7.75mil at the time = July 2001

That’s two 1st round picks and a former 1st for a 2nd to 3rd line winger and a worse center prospect. Why the hell would they consider that to be even close?

MTL Traded for Kirby Dach & Alex Newhook in their rebuild…

You already Traded Okhotiuk out from the Meier deal…

Don’t forget you have Bystedt to make ice time for as well and who knows if he or Edstrom even become full-time NHL Players, whereas Sharangovich has already proven he’s the real deal. Who cares Wiesblatt was barely Drafted in the 1st Round, he’s not a Top Prospect by any means and by the looks of things, SJ could use more Left Handed Forward Prospects

He was also coming off his sixth Vezina trophy

(And Wings were nutty about trading picks for older vets in those years…Chelios, Schneider, etc)

San Jose has plenty of left handed players. Their whole lineup is left handed.

This trade is essentially sharangovich for Edstrom and the 14th overall. Weisblatt=Nikolayev. There’s no way any team would pay a top prospect and a 14 overall pick for a guy who has had 1 good year.

So he said no because they we're in season and he'd hope to win a cup with Swayman, not sure Jersey had anything to do with it at the time. But you believe what you want.Trotz is supposedly working on a deal with Juce and thats ok by me.

Your high! He had more value at TDL and your GM listened to Maloney, thats on him. Now you want a mulligan and more added! I dont think thats happening. I'd like Marky but no way your getting 10OA for a 35/6 yr old G from us.

The deadline deal was far from just Holtz going to Calgary, it was more like Holtz/Mercer + NJ 2024 1st + Casey for Markstrom. Calgary wanted Mercer, NJ wanted to keep Mercer and move Holtz instead. That 1st is worth more now than it was at that time and after Mercer failed to even beat Nosek for a spot as 3rd line center Calgary probably isn't very interested in him anymore.

There was the same 6 mill in retention at the deadline.

Just for 3 years of markstrom (including his age 34 year, by far his most valuable).

I doubt that much retention was discussed or ever on the table. Pretty sure the fact NJD wanted retention at all is the main reason why it cratered

Tanner Jeanot was a terrible trade an everyone knew it from the start. Necas isn’t going to get that much of a haul, realistically what’s his comp? Meier? Meier was better at the time and San Jose took a ton back on it. Okhotiuk was a very small piece of the deal. Mukhamadullin was the main prospect.

Mukhamadullin, Gushchin, Cagnoni, Furlong, Musty all Left handed. Could add Eklund to that list, he’s only 21. Celebrini will be there too. Plenty of lefty’s. They aren’t making a trade to just add more left handers.

SJ no where near the point that adding one scorer makes any difference, Trading 2 1st for the privledge makes no sense SJ goal is another bottom 3 finish next year

It's entirely possible that San Jose can get draft a playerof the same level as Shargovich with that 1st round pick, not even considering the addition of Edstrom and Weisblatt (who is admittedly fading).

Yet at the same time both that 1st and Edstrom could end up being nothing
