Two cap dumps a scrub D and a late 1st isn't getting Necas. The money it'd take to pay the cap dumps would be enough to extend Necas anyhow.

Canes pass. You have maybe 4 pieces that Carolina might be willing to move Necas for. Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, and Montreal's 1st this year. Outside of that, Hutson is a wannabe Nikishin (very good prospect, but Nikishin is better so Hutson isn't needed) and the Canes just don't have other needs. This isn't going to even open a conversation about Necas

Well, this kinda explains the atrocious Zegras trades, because the older Necas isn't as quite good offensively but FAR better defensively . . .

LOL I've blocked Caniac2000 because he's shown me he was crazy a long time ago. You think Necas is worth Suzuki/Caufield/Slafkovsky? You think hutson won't be good? Lol ee-dee-ot

He’s not saying Necas is worth them just saying that’s who Carolina would be interested in because other than them Montreal doesn’t have much to offer a win-now squad

Matheson? He’s a legit top 4 at a reasonable cap hit. And if Canes lose Skjei and Pesce 🤔.
I don’t see that the Canes have too much leverage - they move him or he accepts his qualifying offer and walks next year. If a lot of teams are interested - as reported - then they should get better offers than this but Habs seem to me to be one of the most likely destinations for him

He’s left handed and the canes already have Slavin and Orlov on the left side.

The canes reportedly have been planning a larger role for Necas next season, which the lack of a top role was why he was upset in the first place. I think he only gets traded if it’s an overpay

They don’t really need help on left side which is why Matheson doesn’t make a ton of sense. I keep seeing Skjei is still in the mix to return but even that doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Nikishin coming over next year and they’ll likely slot him in 2LHD so don’t want to block his path long term.

As far as Necas goes - they need to figure something out but they’re not gonna take a low ball offer. He’s still an rfa so his leverage is limited but it’s not nothing. Canes can punt it a year if that’s what makes the most sense. Regardless I think they can get a better offer than this. I don’t know why teams are lining up to give him 7-8x7.5 but it seems like there’s a lot of teams that are willing to do it. I personally don’t see a great trade fit with CAR and MTL but maybe if canes have a third team involved or somewhere to flip futures (bc I don’t think any NHL ready players from MTL are available or the ones that are aren’t desired) then there’s a deal to be made.

I personally think a teams like OTT, UTAH, VAN, maybe Philly make more sense.

That’s an option, of course. But Necas is essentially in control here - just like Tkathuck was with the Flames. If he wants out, he’ll get out - accept qualifying offer and walk as a FA next year. I’ll bet he’s moved by or at draft .
Mathewson - in this Cario - takes Skjej’s spot

I could be wrong - RFA rules are murky - but I think Necas is essentially in control; he has a lot of leverage. Just like Tkathuck did with Calgary.
All he has to do is accept qualifying offer or go to arb, play one year and walk as a FA. Canes won’t want that so he’ll likely be moved.
Where he’s moved - you know more than me

I think he’s got 2 years till UFA still but could be wrong. Regardless, yeah he could just play it out and walk so at some point they’ve gotta figure it out unless they’re good losing him for nothing which is unlikely.
