This might work for 1 year but the cap situation after this year would be terrible and trading away an entire draft class in 2025 is a bold strategy.

Yeah, 29M in their cap space for the 25-26 season.......

    Dobson : 8M
    Romanov : 3.250M
    Palmieri : likely 3.5M - 4M
    Nelson : likely gonna stay at 6M - 6.5M

Maybe Mangiapane can be gone, but he can sign at 5.5M - 6M

The result of that is you will likely gonna have big maximum few millions in your cap space.

And I'm far for being a NYI fan.

You're very optimistic on the Mangiapani trade, he's probably not worth more than a 2nd rd pick 2 yrs from now.

Cap isnt so bad. Palmieri, Nelson take pay cuts and the extra money can be used for the Dobson resigning. Dufour, Tsyplakov take some depth spots for cheap

Romanov is getting close to 5M. They'd have around 5M in cap space after resigning the 4 of them with no picks and no contracts to unload.

I think that he is the type of player that can create a overbidding because he is a player who can have a lot of interrest around the league.

Romanov maximum potential is a fringe top-4. He will never gonna receive the 5M contract.

Not sure you've watched game in and game out this year because he is already a legit top 4 guy. Was their most consistent dman from game 1 to game 82. I don't want to come off like a d*ck either but its just the truth. This doesn't really work. They trade essentially 2 whole draft classes and don't even get a long term player out of it.

I feel like the Hawks would do both the Lee trade and the JGP trade for less. Not insanely less, but we have an ironic situation where we could use Lee and JGP. BUT we'd have to agree that their contracts are too high.

As long as we are being properly compensated for the cap space NYI are acquiring… I would be more than okay with taking on both players in a trade.

I don’t think this type of deal will happen though, the hawks made the draft pick swap the other day.., and I would guess if the hawks were interested in doing that it would give happened at that time.

Came here to say the exact same thing, they would have just rolled the proposal above into the draft pick trade a couple of days ago.

That was my thought, too. BUT the pick swap could also be an indicator that they are in discussions about multiple things and just wanted to get that part out of the way. I wouldn't be surprised if CHI and NYI have some more trades on the way.

It could also be related to trade lists too, especially if they are talking about a move after the draft…

This is what I'm thinking. Lee has a Full NTC right now. If Lou went to him early...it's possible Lou revealed his cards too soon. I tend to think Lee and his family would sit down and think about their future. CHI imo doesn't seem that bad considering his wife is from here. BUT If Lou asks about CHI too early he might like his life they built in NY and put CHI on the list.

    At least they're talking!

Yeah, maybe. Although, I'm sure Lee and his agent have their thumb on the pulse of which teams might be willing and able to take on his contract, CHI being one of very few teams who can, and they are likely already working on or have finished the list. So, if the Isles do indeed want to move his contract, it really just comes down to "Do you like CHI? Yes or No."

I'm curious how that whole thing unfolds. With a list at ~50% of the league... Lou could retain. There are surprises. I tend to think the agent offers up options, but no promises. So it's still on Lee and the agent likely makes sure Anders knows it. The agent doesn't want to get blamed if a surprise happens. He'll provide guidance, but at the end if the day it's on Lee, no?

For sure. Should be interesting. I just wonder if retaining defeats the purpose of moving him. But, if they aren't planning on extending him, they should at least try to get some draft capital and bring in some depth with the cap space, even if it's only a little bit.
