No the point is to build around them now while they're still in their prime. All you did was waste a year of that for no reason

Or, and this is dumb so forgive me. Keep your options open. Not like Nelson would be one of the best possible rental contracts.</div></div>
Ah yes, when you have Barzal, Horvat, Dobson, Pelech, Pulock, Sorokin, Romanov, Mayfield all here long term, just sell off pieces so you can contend when they're all old! This is delusional

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Earth2Fire</b></div><div>Why pay to move them until the deadline. Makes no sense, and one of Lous philosophies is if you have time, use it.
Also, FAs don't like L.I. Can't blame them. The infrastructure is old. Traffic is bad. Fans are rude. And on top of that, people act like it's some sort of honor to be here. So no. We aren't going to be getting a piece better than Lee or Pageau. No star player in their right mind would choose to come here.</div></div>
Why waste a whole entire year for no reason? They can trade a contract and then go out and trade for their winger.

Reilly is coming back not Aho. Btw Holmstrom is getting paid about half that value. They'll have around 3.3M in cap space after bringing their guys back. One of Lee and Pageau will be moved, the question from there becomes who do they bring in

With Hronek's, contract demands Isles can't fit him. Dobson is their RD1 and is going to get his extension this offseason

Get rid of Rutta too much for a 7D. Take that money and go get a middle 6 winger instead of Iskhakov

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoImRight</b></div><div>Don't love the trade for either team, Romanov seems a bit redundant with Benoit, you'd probably like to have McCabe in that 2LD spot as well. Marner for Pulock + I'm sure could be discussed but wouldn't surprise me if Isles fans come in here saying no chance</div></div>
It's just the wrong dman. Pelech would be the dman the Isles would trade and would also accept Toronto. Unfortunately, the Leafs would also need to take Pageau in the deal as well plus the Marner extension would ideally need to be coming in under 11.5 and already negotiated

Isles aren't trading either. Romanov is about to get a long term contract this summer and Pulock is an all situation 2nd pair RHD with an NTC. Also Varly is retiring on LI, he's not waiving for Toronto

I actually really like the idea of this, matter of fact I think I'm the one that started it lol. However, this only works if they decide to trade Lee because Mikheyev is a middle 6 winger and doesn't solve their main issue upfront. I'll try to mock one up

Depends on Hronek's contract but I don't understand why exactly the Isles are trading a 1st in this scenario.

Yea exactly. Even if he wants 5.5M over 3 years its still an overpay. He's a middle 6 winger, more of a 2nd line, and he's going to want top 6 money. I'll pass just for that reason alone tho he does fit well

Under the Radar options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>with Norris’ primary issue being his shoulder, I’d want to start by reducing the amount of draws he takes. he’s also struggled at 5 on 5 at times and I’d like to simplify his role with him on the wing. Pinto plays a much more refined 200ft game and Stützle is far best suited as a C because he thrives with as many puck touches as possible. Letting Norris be a pure shooter and north-south winger getting fed pucks by guys like Stützle would put him in a nicer position to succeed imo. and his height is kinda irrelevant because he really doesn’t play the body any more than any other top 6 forward, and I’m guessing he’ll be extra tentative coming off the shoulder reinjury</div></div>
So for injury preventative reasons really. I already knew Pinto and Stutzle were the superior centers but what you're saying does make sense.

Under the Radar options
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ForsbergForVezina</b></div><div>Idk, if he's healthy and we didn't give up too much maybe I'd be open to Laine? This past season aside, he missed a good chunk of 21-22 and 22-23 due to injury and is pretty notorious for having zero interest in playing defense. I think we could do better personally.
Honestly I'd give 20th overall for Vatrano if we extended him post-trade. I think we'll let Palmieri go next offseason and Vatrano feels like natural replacement. I love his game and I think he'd be extremely valuable, even if he doesn't score 37 again</div></div>
I like Vatrano a lot, I'm just very skeptical about his production going forward and his contract. He seems to be more of a 45-50 point player than what he was this past year and the next question becomes what contract does he demand?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>I’d far sooner move Norris to the wing regardless, but yeah all fair points</div></div>
Curious to hear the reasoning behind that? 6'2 200 Center that wins 52% of his draws, makes me wonder why he'd move to wing? Either way probably not ideal to have an 8M winger in Norris who'd already be behind Tkachuk and could potentially hinder Greig from ever moving up to line 2
