If someone offers a top 15 pick for jenner and the gm says no, id want that GM fired. If Gretzky can be dealt, then so can everyone else. No one in the NHL should be truly untouchable no matter the price. Id bet the Oilers would trade McDavid if the right deal came about.
I mean, this isn't really the ACGM to have the Jenner discussion...the whole point was it's not really worth arguing value on a player it would take a massive overpay to move. Once you move out of the realm of sanity/market value, it's purely subjective. How do you measure how much more a unicorn-type player is worth than a similar player without those skills? Like, you can't really quantify how much more Jenner is worth than, say, Newhook because of leadership/grit/meaning to the franchise.
The Jackets have had 5 top-15 picks in the last 3 years, with another this year, and are the 2nd-youngest team in the league. There's an argument that you
do turn down a top-15 pick in this year's draft (top-10? probably not. top-15? maybe) just because this franchise needs that leadership/stability figure more. No one is reasonably offering more than that without getting fired. It's not worth discussing beyond that.
Everyone could be dealt, sure, but everyone gets mad when we talk about the price it would actually take to trade for one of those players in the modern age because they don't care about having a reasonable discussion about why said player is "untouchable" in the first place. They only care about fantasizing over their favorite team having their cake and eating it too.
