Description
Basically get 3rd team retention on middleton and bjugstad and its right on the money. Could also do krebs in the colton trade if he is signed and they eat 50% cap before the trade, i assume his contract for a year will be 1 mil or less.

Both dowd and Middleton were rumoured to be available for a 1st at the TDL at best you give up a 2nd.

These trade are so far off, teams arent just gonna give you valuable depth players for free aswell as retain on them

dowd is a 34yr old 4th line rental, time to bring your expectations on him back to earth. Middleton i can understand more since he's still in an age to be resigned and play for a while

So was nick foligno when Toronto gave up a 1st for him. Foligno was on a worse point trajectory aswell and dowd has been a better face off guy over the last few years and is better defensively.

You’re asking for a lot for Ross Colton. It’s more likely you get a 3rd and 4th at most. He’s a fine third line Center but if you insist on a second round pick, that’s all you’re getting. Buffalo probably does not want to part with Krebs unless he is a demanded piece in return for a player they have to have.

He is on a great contract and has been one of (if not the best) 4th line centers in the NHL over the past few years. The Caps have no need to trade him. Teams aren't just going to give you solid bottom 6 guys who are on solid contacts.
Nice try though, buddy.

Avs fan. A few things. I love Landy. He's awesome. But I just can't see him coming back. And if he does, it'll be in a sheltered bottom 6 role until they know he's ready to go. But sadly, I just can't see it. Kovalenko will probably make the team next year. I would love Dowd. However, he may cost too much, when really we need someone to replace Chooch. For that 4C spot I'd love to see Foudy get a full time shot at it. Saves some money. And allows us to finally graduate some of our AHL guys. I don't really want Nieto back. Even if he comes that cheap.

the oilers moved their first and got a 2 4th liners and a 2C with almost 3 mil retained and you want a 1st for a 4C and 650k retained, i think there's a bit of a difference in those two deals.

Sure the caps don't have to trade him, no one has to trade anyone really

It's more about fitting a full and competitive team under the cap than it is seeing who you like. 2 of the 4th line contracts are under the league minimum so you're going to have to find cash from somewhere else to bring up any ahl players next year. Nieto has always been a solid 4th liner when he comes in, and at 450k it makes way more sense than having to find another 400k to bring up an ahl player to play 8 mins a night.

You’re wrong. Less than a calendar year ago the Avs traded a 2nd for his rights then proceeded to put up 40pts he plays center, can move up in the lineup and has a reasonable contract for the next 3 years. Thinking that a 3rd and 4th rd pick gets that is a hilarious bad take. Multiple guys as rentals who produced under 20pts were traded for 3rd picks. Everybody is sucking off Dowd and him being worth a 1st and Colton almost doubled his production and is 7 years younger. The proposed trade imo is low value for him.

i mean his value traded before was a high 2nd when he was a winger. Now he's put up career high numbers as a center. I think that's probily right on the money for value. I wouldn't be trading him if we weren't in a cap crunch he's a solid 3C that plays with a solid edge.

If you’re trading Colton I would want to bring Trenin back give him a little bit of term to lower his number instead of wasting picks. Mittlestadt I would like to see at a lower AAV and shorter term but he is kind of the linchpin to the entire off season. Kovalenko didn’t sign here to play in the AHL, and I love Nieto and Kiviranta is fine but if they can’t get a guy like Foudy a spot what are they even doing?

That's fair. Bednar also does tend to have a longer leash for vet guys. And they are familiar with Nieto. I just wish the avs could graduate more guys at the NHL level that they drafted. They seem to struggle with that a bit. So guys like Foudy, and Olausson (if he hasn't already) don't stagnate. Since 2017 they've had 2 first round picks become every day NHLers. One being Makar and the other Byram (who they moved). So I'm hoping somewhere down the line here they are able to get nhl talent from guys they've invested some time into.

like i mentioned above though, it's about fitting a team under cap. I'd like to bring a lot of guys back but who gets moved out. Trenin will probily get 2 mil so that's got to come from somewhere. mitts i don't see coming in anything under 6 either. He's a prety consistent 60 point producer during regular season and is leading our team in even strength points during playoffs, there's really no reason for him to take any less. If he does bank on himself for a 1 year bridge deal we're probily looking at 7+ on a long term contract after that. and ahl guys will be brought up as emergency players when injuries happen but you need to bring in retained contracts with 6 mil in nichuskin basically in no mans land

Haha, why on earth would Minnesota accept that crap trade offer for Middleton. And you have Minnesota retaining 50%… take the 4ths out and add your 1st at bare minimum.

i know what you mean, but we've also been in win now mode, so we didn't really have a lot of roster spots to fill and not tons of time to wait for anyone to develop. And if you look at when we were basically in the rebuild, around when we drafted mack we had tons of guys cycling through from the system and before(duchene, orielly, barrie draft) all our guys from a couple drafts were playing. A lot of our picks have also been moved and some of our higher prospects as well for play now players. so it's a little tougher to bring up guys in the system when you've moved on from a bunch of them.

that's fair, i honestly wouldn't say i've noticed him much when colorado plays them and haven't seen many trades for him on here so i basically had no baseline for what his value was. I mostly was looking for a dman wo could be retained and be under 1 mil after 2nd team retention

His value is that of a 2nd pairing guy making a shade under $2.5M. He’s probably worth a late 1st before retention.

Colton to the Sabres could make sense for them. As for what the Avs would get, I’d imagine it depends on if there’s other teams interested in trading for him. Impossible to say for sure right now, I’d think something around a 2nd or 3rd makes sense.
