Even if Calgarys goal was to blow up the team, that package isn't close.

NJ won’t be adding Boston would be.

More like Mercer+ conditional 25 or 26 3rd for Ullmark+ 25 or 26 1st depending on what 3rd NJ gives us.

Even then idk if they would be willing to move mercer for Ullmark with an extension.

Can Boston fans stop pretending that Ullmark has the same value as Mercer?

Can Jersey fans stop pretending that Mercer has the same value as Swayman?

I’d offer Ullmark and our 2025 first for Mercer, but would fully expect Jersey to say no and counter. There are probably half a dozen possible trades that could work for Ullmark.

I don’t believe Sweeney even engages in discussions for Swayman especially now. Unless the objective is to stop discussions and have them focus on other teams, the continued mention of Swayman likely isn’t going to create a positive outcome

An Oilers fan made this post. Was not a Bruins fan. Very few B’s fans make Ullmark for Mercer posts.

At deadline, Sweeney (or third team) tried pulling NJD into three-way deal with Ullmark. Fitzy instead asked about Swayman and was told to pound sand. I'm glad he asked.

For me, as a fan, I think an unsigned Swayman for an unsigned Mercer is a reasonable price....considering one of those guys went through arbitration last year, was expected to extend in January, and has spoken publicly about how hurtful a process that was. The other is expected to entertain team-friendly deal.

Only me.

Once Swayman extends, I don't think Mercer-for-Swayman would be much of an option. Until then, probably fair game...

Been a few...
...also been Ullmark for Hischier.

The most realistic is probably 2025 pick for Ullmark (done after July 1st).

If Swayman was in Jersey and Mercer were in Boston, no Jersey fan would be calling it a “reasonable price”. One has statistically shown to be one of the best goalies in the league and upped his game in the playoffs. The other is coming off a disappointing year.

A top-10 goalie would not return a top-10 forward though...goalies are rarely traded for forwards directly. And do not get as much in return when they are dealt.

Can we stop pretending that Mercer is a top 10 forward or even has that type of potential? I like him and would pay a premium to get his talent (Ullmark and a 2025 first), but he is not anywhere near Swayman in terms of relative position even if you go to percentiles.

I’m tired of the goalie value discussion. There has never been a goaltender like Swayman traded without the team being under immense cap pressure (which eliminates your Schneider comp).

If you want to low ball for goalies, go ahead and maintain last year’s strategy. It worked really well for the balance of the division.

Cory Schneider works because they knew they were trading one of the two goalies…everyone just expected it to be Luongo.

Freddy Andersen?
Semyon Varlamov?

Goalies are more likely traded (1) when they at RFA; (2) when there is a viable alternative on roster

Devils fans will have to get used to never being able to acquire a decent goalie if your GM thinks the same way you all do.

Just want to make clear the 2 goalies we're talking about (Markstrom and Ullmark) were acquired for free via UFA.

"It's impossible to acquire goalies like this without paying massive assets"

Meanwhile these exact goalies were literally acquired for free at a younger age closer to their primes

There is a reasonable chance that Ullmark makes it to free agency in a year and NJ is in a position to sign him for free just like I think Boston is going to do with Elias Lindholm.

After this year, I think NJ shouldn’t wait and there is a deal to be made to ensure he gets there. It won’t cost them Mercer or the 10th pick unless Boston is adding a 2025 first. Even then, I think the more like deal is a 2025 first and a 2024 third or a prospect.

I don’t believe Sweeney trades Swayman. He had one test needed before locking him into a long term deal and he literally just passed it with flying colors. Kid is a literal folk hero in Boston after this series. I believe the Schneider deal as a comparable is wishful thinking for NJ fan. Just like I don’t think we are acquiring Draisaitl even though I’d love him (not the same level of player I get it)

It’s OK because Boston likely never makes it. My guess is they sign Elias Lindholm outright on July 1st.

I am more than happy to make a deal for a fair price.

There is one individual tho who is convinced NJD will have to pay extortion level prices for a goalie, and that there is no other possible way to get a goalie.

Swayman is always fun to think about but he's always been a pipe dream. But that dream will remain until an extension is signed for me

The dream ended with a 10.8 GSaX in 6 games. That’s a historical performance against a good offensive team. That’s the only thing that was left to be answered and it was answered emphatically
