That means the Lightning would be $6.23 million over the cap with a 21 man roster including Cirelli who makes $6.25 million. The only other player with a decent sized salary and lack of NMC/NTC is Brandon Hagel 8 x $6.5 million and he outproduces Cirelli and plays on the top line.

Cernak, Sheary, and Jeannot all have some NTC protection

A buyout of Sheary is probably a good idea since he is a 4th liner making $2 million for 2 years but you still have to replace him with at least a minimum contract and that would leave TBL at $5.625 over.

The Lightning could trade Cirelli and take back a player on an ELC to manage their cap.

So, what if that player was Matvei Michkov from Philly? You wouldn't do that if you were Tampa? Or a package like Conor Geekie + Maveric Lamoureux from Utah?

Again though TBL have 0 need to trade Cirelli to keep Stamkos. He's 34 and the drop off could happen at any moment. Cirelli is 26 and a key PKer for them and signed to a nice 6 more year deal


The McDonagh trade tells me they are trying to lowball Stamkos and I think TBL is setting up to where Stamkos is either leaving in FA, gonna sign a long term 4.5m-5M x 5-6 year deal, or like Seabrook they might go after an LTIR contract like Webber to basically go over again

Duclair I think is gone as thats TBL thing with most of the depth once their deals done and need a raise bye. There are alot of guys they can sign this FA who can come cheap and have rebound potential to. Beau, Labanc, Patches, Vrana, etc.
