Massive overpayment for the NSH deal. Tomasino isn't worth that much, although he is a good candidate for the next Dach/Newhook deal of this offseason.

Huge mistake trading 5th overall for Zegras, let alone adding Mailloux to the trade. If anyone was adding here it would be ANA.

The NYI trade is fine.

Yes overpays, but Fans of both teams will still say it's not enough. Especially Anaheim.

No, you're at least in the ballpark of what it would take for Zegras.

No, we understand that it's a weak draft and the players who will be available at 5 have a lower ceiling than Zegras and also carry the risk of being a bust, of which Zegras has shown he's not. But habs fans can't seem to wrap their head around the concept that you don't always end up with star players with top 5 picks. If you did, Edmonton would have won three cups in the McDavid Era.

quote me in a year but Demidov, Levshunov, Lindstrom, Celebrini and Bium are all way better than Zegras, like a lot. Even Catton, Connely and Inginla will be better.

one of the strognest D draft too.... Add Dickinson to the mix which all have top 2 projection.

You arr not getting 2 bluechip assets in a deal for Zegras. Historically even the best of the best that have been traded haven’t gotten those kind of return. Taylor Hall was traded at 24 for Adam Larsson. Taylor Hall and Zegras early career are very much the same. Both where on super bad team, both high draft pick, both producing at a similar pace.
The 2024 Mtl draft pick would be more then enough in term of value, depending on is Anaheim have a player the value at the position Mtl will speak. Mailloux have been a riser from the day he got drafted. He is consider a one of the top NHL prospect. Anaheim ain’t getting those kind of assets combine. Historically it haven’t happened. Zegras isn’t the second coming of the great one. Lower your expectation or it will be brutal if he get traded.

Id do that from a Nashville perspective. Though i just see dvorak as a damaged goods cap dump since he is almost never healthy enough to make it through a full season.

Id probably just do Tomasino the winnipeg 1st so trotz and Brunette can draft someone more in line with their vision for the future. Tomasino is a good enough talent but we have a fair amount of RWs. Id be interested in Barron for Fabbro swap as well since Brunette seems to have something against Fabbro.

Something like

Tomasino - WPG 1st
Fabbro - Dvorak (dump) + Barron

Taylor Hall was traded for an established top 4 RHD that was taken at 4OA. Mallioux was taken 31st, and has established nothing.

It's a weak draft, the absolute best case scenario for the player taken at 5OA is that he manages to achieve a similar career to Zegras, assuming absolutely everything goes right, then you add the fact that there's the risk of busting with that pick. Furthermore, Mallioux is not a blue chip piece.

If you had a similarly aged top 4 RHD that had shown they're not a bust at the NHL level, you could argue that 1 for 1 trade is appropriate, but you don't, you have prospects and picks that carry risks.

Yeah, if both Mallioux and 5OA turn out to be studs at the NHL level, Anaheim would hands down win the trade, but that upside for Anaheim is covering the risk that neither could be impact pieces at the NHL level, that's how trades work.

Mailloux was selected 31st so what? What this have to do with anything. Mailloux is a top prospect who improved each season since he was draft. So yes Mailloux is a blue chip prospect. Finish 3rd in overall scoring for defenseman in Ahl. 6’3’’ skating like the wind, physical, with literally a bomb as a shot and he shot right. Zegras have only 2 season under is belt when Taylor Hall had 5 of them, Zegras could have reach is ceiling already, Mtl is taking a risk either since he was underperforming is previous standard. So you can play the victim card all you want, you ain’t getting two bluechip assets for him. If you does at the end i’ll be the first to present you my excuse. But as for now you can keep asking for ridiculous return, everyone know that it won’t be happening and each year Zegras get closer to is last contract year is value will drop continuously.

Unless ANA lands Celebrini for yet another NHL-ready LHC (11% chance) I see no reason why they consider moving Zegras

Zegras underperformed due to injury, he had osteitis pubis since the pre season, the same injury that kept Logan Voulture out basically all year. It got to heal fully while his ankle recovered, and lol and behold, when he came back from all injuries, he scored at his usual rate, looked like his usual self, except for notable improvements off the puck.

So no, MTLs not taking any risk other than Anaheim would draft well and in hindsight have won the trade. And Mallioux is bone headed off the puck, we've got enough scoring from the blue line, that's why we're frankly more interested in Reinbacher, and would take him and MTLs 25 2nd.

The fact that you talk about Mailloux like you know anything about him is pretty remarkable. Mailloux play without the puck have exponentially grown this season. He was one of the more consistent defender when the season ended with a very young squad in Laval. Is overall play have improved now in a way that he will become a viable and trustable top 4 defender in this league in a near future. As for Reinbacher i doubt that Hugues will entertain any trade talk for him. They pass on many great forward in last year draft to pick him.

Same could be said about you and your evaluation of Zegras, since it's clear you only stat watched and didn't bother to read updated scouting material on him OR watch him play this season.
