Hawks might give up one of those picks. Definitely not all 3.

Canes pass. Provorov sucks. You're likely going to be stuck with him until the end of the deal

1st and foremost by a mile, I hope Laine's doing well. I truly wish him the best.

I'm ok with this trade such that Laine wants to play and he's in the right space. The return is secondary. If he committed to the Hawks and TRULY understands how his actions have affected his own situation and the nuance/subtle, but important understanding of knowing "he's the captain of his own ship" type psychology...frankly I'd pay up if he's truly got that understanding. I'm just not sure how you go about finding that. CBJ and the NHL should simply help the guy out.

Right now, Laine does not come close to getting that type of return. When/if he gets back to where he would get that type of return, it is unlikely Jackets move him.

Might as well hang on to Laine because Stamkos isn't signing w/ Columbus. And the Hawks aren't making that deal either. Too much of a gamble for a rebuilding team. Laine needs to return to the ice and show that he's still a high level player before he's worth that sort of return from the Hawks.

I think he could. Just believe there would be conditions on some of the picks.

I wouldn’t say he won’t. Stamkos has won multiple cups. Right now he might be more interested in money considering his career is going into the twilight years. He would have a huge role on the Jackets very similar to how Pavelski has helped the Stars.

That's a possibility but Stamkos has made over $100m in his hockey career and he has several business interests on going in Tampa. If he leaves Tampa, it would likely be to chase another cup. It's won't be for a one year payday.

See the moves here are to make the Jackets a playoff team. Obviously he not guaranteed a cup but the Jackets need to make moves to get better. This is a low risk type of move that doesn’t screw the Jackets or the player long term. TB just isn’t going to have the money to keep Stamkos wihout screwing them somewhere else on the roster.

Tampa can probably pay Stammer as much as $5.5m without moving out anyone besides Sheary. If they give him a 4 year deal @$5.5m, I can see him definitely taking that and retiring a Bolt. He has said on multiple occasions his desire is to play his whole career in Tampa. I guess we'll see what happens July 1st, but to me, Stammer to Columbus for one year is the longest of shots.

He's a useful defenseman and UFA next offseason, and cheap if he's half-retained. If it's not the Canes, we'll at least get similar value at TDL 2025 from another contender.

I doubt it. He's a 3rd pairing D man and he still makes what 4.75 against the cap?

2nd-pairing, 32 points on the year, and the only CBJ player to play all 82 games. He's an upgrade on nearly every team's 3rd pair, does lots of stuff well but nothing particularly great. Half-retained would be expected, so 2.375 against the cap for a good 2nd-pair, great 3rd-pair guy.

It's not out of the question that he lands a Tanev-like deal at TDL next season. Similar underlying metrics and similar contracts, but Provorov is younger and more reliable health-wise.

He's a good 3rd pairing guy, but to say he's an upgrade on almost any team's 3rd pairing? Come on. He's not on Carolina, he's not on the Rangers, probably not on Dallas or the Islanders. Anyone with actually competent defensive depth. And he makes almost 5 million. Provorov's also got an off-ice reputation from his time in Philly.
