If habs draft 5 OVR

Description
Hey Ducks fans, I have a propasal/Gamble for you.

Right now the draft board looks like this for the top 4:

1- Celebrini
2- Demidov
3- Levshunov
4- Lindstrom
5 - X

If the draft order is the following:

1- SJS
2- CHI
3-ANA
4-CLB
5- MTL
6-ARI

We can expect two of Celebrini, Demidov , Levshunov and/or Lindstrom to be off the board by ANA's pick. I think it's very likely that ANA is interested in drafting a RHD this draft (Levshunov, Buium, Parekh) as their offensive is looking stacked and they just traded away Drysdale.

While CLB are likely to go for a forward considering they are strong at D right now with Jiříček, Mateychuk, Werenski, Provorov and would probably LOVE to put their hand on Lindstrom to have a nice 1-2 with Fantilli.

Do you think ANA would be willing to switch picks with MTL and gamble that Levshunov makes it through to CLB? Habs would likely draft Lindstrom.

In exchange of taking that Gamble - Habs could offer the 5 OVR, WPG's 2024 first round pick and Barron/Harris.

If CLB suprinsingly pick Levshunov - you will still end- up with a GREAT D prospect (Buium, Parekh, Dickinson, Sylayev) ), and extra first round pick and a decent rookie with top 4 upside.

Would you take that gamble?

It's an interesting proposal, and it really comes down to who we're looking at and where they're expected to go. Leshunov is top 2-3 on almost every trade board, bit I've seen some with Parekh going top 5 with Yamechuk outside the top 10, and some with Yamechuk going top 5, and Parekh outside the top 10.

Assuming we'd be happy with one of those three, it might be a gamble worth taking, but I might want a more usable player like Kovacevic instead of Barron, as I don't see Barron as a fit with the Ducks who have no need for his offensive abilities.

I'd also imagine this doesn't happen until after the lottery, in case that wasn't obvious.

I think with the amount of time spent getting ready for the draft, if your guy is on the board, you grab him.

I could see them having interest in Lindstrom as well.

I think this is the correct answer to the proposal but I almost like it’s a real interesting idea

Makes it even easier for Pat to trade up to draft MBN as well

I appreciate the thoughts you put into this!

I think duck wise, it could be worth it, but i think there is enough foward to be happy with whoever we pick at number 5 for the habs.

I am also not convinced that lindstrom is a lock for top 5, even demidov could fall too. draft are usually not predictable. I could also see colombus going for a LD.

No problem, It can easily be Kovacevic.

and yes - after lottery where CHI and SJS stay in the top 2.

Sure - but sometimes - lets say you rate Levshunov a 90, and Parekh a 87/88 - then, getting a extra first and a yound D to end up with Parekh is not bad business.

Or, depending on the interviews - a player might score a 90 in skill - but he doesn't fit the team culture, then 87 may become more attractive (Imo, that what I think happened when the habs selected Reinbacher and they let Michkov slip to 7th)

At this point in the habs' rebuild - they might be willing to pay to get some insurance on who they are picking.

The main counter argument to that and staying with the "take who you want" comes down to our GM, he's got a Give a F*** rating of zero, if there's any risk to him not getting his guy, he probably won't take the deal.

But who knows, maybe he feels like wheeling and dealing this year.

First, big credit for a creative MTL post that isn’t a regurgitated Zegras trade 🙏

If Lev slipped and MTL were at 5, they’d have to be absolutely certain CBJ wouldn’t take Levshunov, and I don’t see how that’d be possible. If he’s there at 3 I can’t imagine they take the risk of getting fancy with that pick.

If he’s gone, my guess is they snag Lindstrom and address RHD some other way (like FA, or trying to move up with the EDM pick).

Fair enough - and that's the safe approach for sure and likely to happen once this AGM idea gets to the real world.

If Columbus wins the lottery, habs won’t trade up as Demidov will be available at 5. If any other team below us wins it, we could trade up for him or just settle with Lindstrom. Here is how I view the thing (everything below is if the team don’t win lotto) :
San Jose : they will draft a D, probably Levshunov or Silayev
Chicago : they will also draft a D, Levshunov or Parhek is likely
Anaheim : they will draft a D, Parhek or Levshunov
Columbus : they will draft a forward
