few changes for another season of development

Description
For the big club:

1- Draft a forward. Trade up if possible.

2- We need to find a top 6 winger for Dach, but I would like to keep Newhook as 3rd C with Armia and Gally - that line is rocking.

3- Also, while the young LD are ready to rock - Guhle, Hutson , Xhekaj/Harris/Struble, the RD prospect are not quite there yet : Mailloux and Reinbacher need more seasoning in the AHL for at least 2 seasons. As such, I propose to sign a Vet RD along with Savard to play with the young LD and mentor them.

I think a guy like Tanev would be the perfect fit - a D-first RD, who at 34 years old, is likely to accept a 2 year contract with an AAV over market value (because the habs can afford it).

He would serve as a stop gap that will allow the habs time to develop their young RHD properly.

Kent just said that they could improve RD position but for max one year. They don’t want to impeed on Reinbacher, Mailloux, Barron progressions.

Gourde might be the answer to getting someone for the second line, but what about Roy -- Gourde -- Dach?

Why are the jackets trading down for a RD that won’t make even make the team? The jackets will just draft lindstrom themselves. Value wise you need to include the jets first but I still don’t think the jackets do it unless lindstrom, levshunov, or demidov are all off the board

Sign or get a huge physical D-first then at tdl trade Savard. Nothing to block nor stop kids in the pipeline

That could also work - but long term, I would like to develop Dach as a Center.

I get it - but by signing Tanev for 2 years - he will be there in 2025-2026 while Savard will be gone by then.

Well clearly if the Jacket see Lindstrom as the absolute BPA at 4th and not comparable to the others... then sure... it's not happening.

But if they like him... but they also like Catton, Iginla or any other D... then getting an extra first, a nice RHD prospect (could also be a LHD like Harris or Struble) to help them make the choice could be a no-brainer.

Jackets aren’t trading down for any of those prospects that won’t make their roster. Why would the jackets want middling defensive prospects when they already have guys like jiricek, mateychuk, and svozil who are all better and can’t get playing time as is?

Like I said if levshunov, lindstrom, and demidov are off the board already and the jackets don’t have a preference for the remaining prospects then they might consider trading down with the Habs for the jets first round pick

I think the hangup is just the price. You've just got a pick swap (let's assume 4OA for 6OA) for Justin Barron, a guy who's at best our 5th RD. I'm all for trading back in that situation if we're viewing Catton, Iginla, Lindstrom, etc. as essentially equal, but I think that costs MTL at least their 2nd rounder this year, not just a depth defenseman.

If it's 4OA for 6OA and the WPG 1st, then yeah, that's a no brainer. No player inclusion necessary.

You are right - the worst part, is that I was convinced that I had added WPG's first already LOL.

Yeah - it would most likely involve another pick.

I think the habs are likely to try to GARANTY Lindstrom/Demidov - and the price could even include CAL's 2025 first round pick.

I was just stating facts. I wouldn’t recruit a veteran RD. I think they will keep Savard around as the leader of this D group. Young guns are pushing. No need to be impatient.

At the contrary - I want to be patient with our young RHD -while having experienced VET teaching the ropes to our yound LHD like Guhle, Hutson and Xhekaj.

Columbus has the luxury of being able to take their BPA this year since there isn’t a true glaring need in the prospect pool. I could absolutely see them willing to trade down a bit if they don’t win the lottery, especially if the new GM is hired from another org and can’t participate in the draft.

I still think CLB are more likely to take a forward.

Yes, I agree. But they don’t have to in the way Montreal does. Yakemchuk or Dickinson with Montreal’s first and then maybe little Jiricek with Winnipeg’s could be just as attractive as Catton, especially if Lindstrom (the obvious pick for Columbus) or Demidov are both gone.
