There is nothing you could reasonably add to make Colorado trade Toews. They moved Byram already. They're not gonna move Toews too.

Now of course you could offer up like L Hughes or Nemec, but I wouldn't even suggest it. It's why I used the word reasonably above.

A LOT. Toews is arguably a top 15 dman in the league a former 2nd rd pick and 2nd pairing kind of guy doesn’t get you that. You could add this years 1st rd pick and unless it was A top 3 pick COL is still saying no. Toews is part of the core of COL team for the next half decade with Makar, MacKinnon, Rantanen, Nichushkin and if he is ever healthy Landeskog those are the guys who have or will get long term deals in COL.

Nothing you could add absolutely horrific precedent to set if you're Colorado. You sign a guy to a long term extension at a very fair price maybe a little below market and trade him before playing a second of the contract so his NMC doesn't kick in.

Yep that's an easy no for the Avs and no way Guentzel signs that low (though I don't think he signs as high as some if it's long term).

The Avs trade is a year too late. Last year you might have had some traction.
