We don't need to carry that while rebuilding. It will be better to use that cap space in a rebuilding process later on short term cap dumps to acquire assets.</div></div>
I still believe we should not rebuild until Sid plays like this

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NoVaSpartan</b></div><div>You call Caps fans dumb for stating that a ridiculous proposal is ridiculous yet scoff at the mere mention of Guentzel signing in DC because of some perceived “sh**ty organization”, the notion of Guentzel signing in Washington being far more reasonable than the original trade. So what makes brady_t12 “dumb” here, since it seems there’s nothing we disagree with regarding his original post?
And last I checked; Orpik, Niskanen, Schultz, Sheary, and Hagelin all left Pittsburgh to come to DC within the past 10 years. What makes Guentzel any different? Money talks, its influenced plenty of stars to stay and plenty more to leave.
But seeing as you created your account in June 2018, it’s safe to say the Caps winning a cup did numbers on your mental health, so maybe I’ll lighten up on ya. Seeing Wilson life the cup must’ve been traumatizing.</div></div>
no no no no I did not say caps fans are dumb for stating anything. I said that caps fans are dumb period . they are caps fans that is their problem.
ahahaha you looked up when I made the account lol you don't have anything better to do?
btw I started supporting the pens in 2014 when I went studying in Canada cuz my roommate was a pens fans. luckily won those cups but that is not the point. in Italy we don't even have ice hockey, we are football fans and we don't chose teams because they win or not. never done that never will.

dubas won't be paying to get rid of smith and also won't give any retention. a 6th/7th coming back for smith at 5m. teams will take him to sell him half retained at the tdl.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BELIEVEnPENGUINS</b></div><div>yep, I agree with you. If we can trade Jarry for an ok return I think he does it. If we could trade Smith and get Guentzel back I would do that. My issue is I am not a fan of Puusty on the 3rd line, I would love if Yager could be ready and play 3rd line wing for sure. In terms of Koivunen, Dubas made a comment at the trade deadline press conference that its going to depend after the season on his status for coming over to the AHL or even NHL. We will know more close to training camp on him. I think Yager has a better shot this year, but I just stuck Koivunen there for now.</div></div>
oh ok, good to know... we'll have to wait and see I guess.
and YES, if yager is nhl ready he would be a huge improvement over puustinen I agree.

Based on what DUBAS said today in his press conference
in my opinion, reading through the line of what he said today, we need graves to go back to last years form because we are kind of stuck with him with his contract which will be tough to trade. I do believe he will trade smith, last year of his contract and easy to trade for a late pick to a rebuilding team that will flip him retained at the deadline. honestly he wasn't awful but at the same time we needed more from him in particular down the stretch. Blomqvist I agree will be the backup (I do believe dubas might try to trade jarry if Ned can resign for less, very difficult tho we'll see).
personally, I would stay away from debrusk. he is good don't get me wrong but I think we need more consistency and not having a similar player to smith, even if a bit better.
if you trade smith and not sign debrusk you have 12mil left on the cap which I would give to puusty and guentzel. I know not easy but I do believe bringing back Jake is a huge boost not only for the present trying to make the playoffs but also for the future rebuild in a couple of years.
imo 7x10m is a tough offer to decline.
have like:
Jake sid rust
bunting geno raks
o'connor eller puusty/yager
and your fourth line.
what about Koivunen : is he actually close to make the team or not really?

trust me we won't. he is a great fit for teams looking to get more assets, losing a 6th to get a good player and then sell him retained at the deadline to get a 3rd maybe even a 2nd depending on the season he had. teams like ana, ari, Chicago etc should all be interested
but yea it is to move cap for the pens to make room, rakell would be harder to trade.

Build the muscle around the kids
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>you have 2 2LD on the penguins. What penguins fans want is a 1LD and they aren't getting that without spending 7 mil on cap which they aren't doing.
When you fix the issues in the 3rd pairing which Bahl can do on the cheap, you fix a lot of issues on the defense.
We aren't going to get anything great for Jarry, while you may look at a 2nd as being worth more, they don't have time to wait for them to develop. This team will be in rebuild mode in 2 years. Some mid round 2nd round pick ain't going to matter then.</div></div>
you don't have to get picks to pick players, you can just flip them. we need tradable assets to get a good Dman not bahl. we have a great 1LD in Pete that can complement perfectly EK65, then we need a solid stay at home guy to play with tanger and our defense is done (have a third pairing of graves-st.ivany which is more than fine, even better if you can trade out graves contract)

Rather than get a second Bahl coming back is a guy they can at least use in their 3rd pairing.
The 2nd round pick, that won't see the ice till Crosby is retired. At that point, who cares.</div></div>
clearly your reasoning works but... bahl is not as valuable as a 1st/2nd round pick imo, he is not that good. we need a top 4 LD from a jarry trade or at least gain the assets to go trade for him.
