I don’t get this. Why is Colorado giving up the better player on a better contract and adding a prospect and a high draft pick?
Doesn’t make any sense.

Good points. It consistent with good boy Sakic but it does leave less flexibility. Would really love to sign Drouin if he wanted another sweet heart deal.

I understand the rationale but how much more was he asking for on a shorter deal? $3m seems like my top end.

I like the team. The third paring might be a problem. The trades are reasonable enough that both sides would question the value. Perhaps the target teams change based on need.
I don’t know anything about Poulin so can’t really comment on that one.

Wood is definitely a 3rd line player on a lot of teams. Relentless, fast and a good size for all those size queens out there. The only question is why did he get that length of a contract?

FYI Olausson has a great shot and good size but has had issues putting it all together. I wish we could see him for an extended run with the Avs. Our Ahl team isn’t the best and he’s a complementary player needing a good center to be effective.

Specifically with Mac it took him multiple years to find himself after the move to center. It might have been better to stay on the wing for another year and work on developing his nhl skills.
After mac was promoted to 2rw that line (Landy staz mac) was the best in hockey. However Macs shot was not what it is now and keeping the defensive pressure off his plate may have given him time to develop his offensive game. Then when he moved to center the development curve would have been less pronounced.
It worked out ok with a lower 2rd contract that became the best bargain in the nhl.

That’s a reasonable position. I would argue that the harder step is transitioning from junior to a nhl playoff team. That one way to reduce the step is to allow him to focus on competing at the less demanding wing position.
Ideally we want him to play 3rd line center behind mac and mitt on a scoring 3 line (with Landy stapled to his left side and Drouin on the top line 😀). As we don’t typically use a shutdown 3rd line… However that’s a lot to ask of a young man.

Thanks elaborating my position. Sometimes I forget to explain the reason behind my logic.
He is not eligible to get Ahl time but he probably needs it. Trying to step from junior to the Avs will be a harder transition than most.

Thank you for speaking up and representing.
Bunch is a good player (personally I’m not as big a fan as others on here but I recognize skill) but he means more to the blues than he does to the Avs. Just like Sammy G means more to the Avs than he does to the blues. That’s why the deal is bad for both teams.
I might have responded a bit harshly because I get a little sick of people trading Sammy for pennies on the dollar when he’s so important to the Avs.

You are right. We don’t want him. Definitely not for Sammy and a first.
The whole line of thinking is kinda pointless because all the ufa and Rfa signings are not going to sign

I think jones/jj and malinski will be the 3rd pairing next year with Behrens spending time in the AHL.
I might also switch Richie and Loc depending upon how Richie performs on his strong vs weak side.

Here I disagree my brother from another mother (and father). There is a long history of playing rookie centers on the wing to allow them to acclimatize to the NHL without the pressure of being great defensively. In fact I would say that Mackinnon was moved to center too early. He took a step back after taking stazs center role.
Richie might well be a top center as his ceiling but he’s not going to be there yet. he would really benefit from time in the ahl that he won’t get so spreading out the learning curve will be important.

Ekblad NTC goes to 12-team Modified NTC on July 1st
I have always liked ekblad but Colorado doesn’t need to be paying 7.5m for a second pairing RD that has issues staying healthy. It’s not good cap usage and we have enough superstars. we need to make sure that we can float a full roster and have scoring depth. So Avs pass.

Those are some bad trades. I’d rather keep jones or JJ than get slow Edmundsen.
Fairbrother couldn’t hang around in the ahl all year and was sent to Utah. He’s not going to be retained.
I like Sam and I wouldn’t trade a 1st and a fourth for Patterson.

No from the Avs for all the reasons listed above. We don’t have a second rounder for the next 3 years but a low 1st with something else coming back might work if they want to get rid of Georgie. I’m not a fan of that mentality though.

Game 2 if we were fully healthy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Maybe but it is a fact he isn’t just having his worst year of his career he has been atrocious and the Avs outscored his poor performance. That being said he was great last night and you can’t fault him for either goal given up.</div></div>
That’s why I doubt he gets traded. If this is his worst season and he won the most games of any goalie in the nhl while getting hung out to dry by the “all offensive” Avs… it’s probably going to be better next year. Or at the very least any other goalie is going to be in the same boat.
That being said he hasn’t been good in a lot of games so I’m not going to fall on my sword defending him. I just don’t think Sakic and CMac are going to jump ship.

There is no way the Avs do this. If the retention made both goalies the same price… the answer is still probably no.
We didn’t sign Darcy because he cost too much and we thought he would decline with age. Nothing has changed in that equation. We sure as hell ain’t paying an additional 1.5m for the privilege.

I don’t think Georgie is immune to being replaced. It’s just this panic is silly. We need to put the blame where it belongs. On the team and defense… and the goalie. Scapegoating Georgie doesn’t solve the problem. The mental game needs fixing. The physical game will turn around if the mental game improves.

Holtz and Kovacevic with Gravy on Top
To be honest I don’t think any of this is necessary except trading Colton.
Manson is better than Graves
Kovie the tank jr projects as a 3RW not really a center.
If Richie is ready to go next season he’s probably a 4c but I love Landy being there to teach him how to be a pro so 3c is ok.
Behrens will probably need a year in the ahl but I’m happy to consider he shows up at camp and earns the spot.
It just comes down to Malinski vs kova as to who you like better. I’m in the malinski camp but he didn’t do as well as I would have liked in the ahl this year. Soo 🤷♀️
