I'm not even going to bother commenting on the value

I don't get why the Habs crowd on here is so obsessed with Anton Lundell. If you're going to trade so much for him, why is he on the 4th line?

Necas is going to make around what Caufield makes, and that isn't even close for his trade value. *Maybe* if you sent the Habs pick, with it likely top 10, the Canes would have interest, but otherwise, this gets laughed at

That’s not too far off what Necas’ trade value would be as an RFA

Fiala, who was better and also the same age as Necas is returned the 19th pick and a good prospect recently taken in the 2nd round (Faber has obviously exceeded expectations but he wasn’t expected to be this good)

Debrincat as a 25 year old RFA last year returned a late 1st, a 4th, Kubalik, and a meh prospect. I think most people would say Debrincat is better than Necas as well

You can say the second piece needs to be a bit better than the Avs 2nd rounder, but it’s not that far off based on historical comps for RFA wingers

Let's use Fiala as a comparable then. 1st and Faber. So a 1st and Hutson? Hutson was a second rounder that's exceeded expectations. The difference between Cat, Fiala and Necas is that Necas isn't a winger. He wants to play center, that's what is sparking the entire rumor of him being moved. Carolina can afford to keep him, but you're not paying for a winger.

Hutson has exceeded expectations while still being a prospect. Faber didn’t exceed expectations until after he was traded. Hutson isn’t the right comparison

A mid-late 1st + 2nd/good but not great prospect is about fair value for Necas

Necas is 8th in CAR total faceoffs, with a 34.8 FOW%. That is a winger, no debate.

I do agree that CAR should get more than that for him, but a team will be paying for a winger

He's taken maybe 50 faceoffs this year, that's the problem with trying to use faceoff percentage to determine whether he is a center or not, and he only usually takes them when Kuzentsov (or used to be Kotkaniemi) got kicked out. He's a natural center. He is a center, if you want him, you are paying for a center

I don't think there is a single team in the NHL that will constantly play him as a center. Doesn't mean that he gets that role 5 times a year that he is a natural center. If teams genuinely start bidding center prices for him than so be it, but I don't see a single team use him as such, natural bringing his price down to a winger price

A mid-late 1st and a 2nd isn't getting Necas. Faber was surpassing expectations as a prospect, though not to the standards Hutson is. This isn't close to that. Not to mention, the 2022 draft class was deeper than the 2024 class, so the late 1st is worth less than it was with the Fiala trade. If that's the offer, he'll be in Carolina next year

There's a ton of teams that will give him that shot. Necas is playing out of position when a large part of his inconsistency issues are mental. Moving him back to the position that is most natural to him is going to make him more valuable. He himself wants to play center, and that might get him into a situation where he'd only sign with teams that will offer him a spot down the middle. He's got the dynamic speed to be an elite centerman, and he's more than big enough for it

Well no because according to you he’ll only sign where he can play center, and he’s such a good center that the Hurricanes don’t play him there.

I don't think Waddell calling other teams saying "Ya, Necas wants to play center, so we want you to pay center price" will fly well.

Maybe Necas will make a great center, or, possibly not.

Waddell might not, but Necas has to agree to an extension. The major issue he has with Rod is that he wants to play center. Now he has leverage to force it. He's going to play center somewhere

And Martin Necas gets more than a late 1st as well, And he's not signing that cheaply either.

Screwed up - he's indeed likely signing a Caufield type of contract (7 years x 7.75M)

Value is there taking comps like Fiala.
It's a two-yrs out post, so you also need to factor in Dvorak who will be in a contract renewal year. He likely fetches you another 2nd + late pick on top of the 1st + 2nd already provided.
That's more than Fiala (as Faber wasn't a known thing at the time of the deal)

That was a mistake of me doing Lundell/Necas contracts quickly on my phone, but yes 7x7.75M.

Lundell going on the 4th is just a testament of the team depth if those moves happen. This isn't the 24/25 habs, this is a projection of the 25/26 team.
