<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>While ARI really needs picks after their penalty, that offer is quite poor for their best D-man.

BUF might consider taking that, but without retention.</div></div>

Define poor. A young Dman that's top 10 in the D under 22 years old is poor? He might not be putting up huge numbers yet, but a lot of so called prospects that people would value higher than Mete have yet to prove their ability to play in the league.
Poehling has had a bad year, but is still a recent WCJ MVP and has 2C potential. Lots of analysts see his floor as a reliable two-way 3C.

Both fit with the age group of the new core. On top of that 16OA + 55/56OA are key for a team trying to get picks and get younger.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>BUF trade is easy no, they need talent on ELC’s not mercurial players who aren’t as good as they think.

AZ trade is interesting but they aren’t going to trade OEL AND retain money.</div></div>

It's been reported they don't to pick at 8th once again for the 10th year. 8th is on the table for an offensive 2C, which is what Domi is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gordon_Bombay</b></div><div>How would you explain those trades?

I think Mete and Poehling have little value. So I think the offer you made might get you Dvorak alone, but not both.

The Buffalo one is interesting, but if they can draft at 8, they have the possibility to have a guy around for 3 years at a minimal contract who can produce like a 5m player, so I'd rather keep Okposo, but the offer is kind of fair. I just would not make that deal if I were buffalo</div></div>

Let's agree to disagree on Mete &amp; Poehling's values.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SkatinTintin</b></div><div>Why would you help a team in our division. They're heading for cap hell, let them.

You give a top 4 defenseman in Mete for Montour who's a bottom pair d-man.
You give a top 6 forward for a very uncertain prospect and a huge cap dumb.

Giving too much for too little in my opinion</div></div>

I think this is where we disagree. I see Montour as a 3RD (i.e. Petry's replacement) and that's why I would extend him 7 years at $5.5M AAV given the chance.
His situation clearly reeks him stuck on a bad team as Petry was. I see Montour has a guy that will lock the 3RD spot and provide 25-40 pts per year for the next 7 years.

Mete is younger, but likely tops out as a 3LD in his best years producing in the 20-35 pts range while being smaller than Montour. So that's an upgrade for Mtl.

Domi's value is around what 8th overall + a small add would be, which is why I think that by "lowering" the value of that 8th OA pick through a retained Okposo (Habs need a 4th line RW anyway), that a package of Domi + a late 1st could entice them to throw Mittelstadt into the mix.

Again, I see Mittelstadt as a guy that could have a resurgence and somehow could become the centerpiece of this whole trade if he somehow turns into a 55-70 pts guy a la Domi but again, with more size if he can put on some more muscles (he's only 21 afterall.) If not, i'm more than content in that trade to have him become a reliable 3rd line 35-50 pts guy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Treize131</b></div><div>Going to have to respectfully disagree.

Other GMs know that we're in this situation so Tre does not have much to bargain with at this time. A deal like this is what we can expect and it's also what we might end up needing depending on how long it takes for Valimaki to get back up to speed. Recovery is one thing but players that miss large chunks of time from the season often don't really get back to 100% until the following season. Reilly is a serviceable defenseman with a low cap hit that can perhaps push Kylington and whoever else they bring on via PTO.</div></div>

Good take. A lot of individuals right now don't seem to notice how heavy of a cap crunch there is around the league. Once we get closer to training camps &amp; all of the RFAs are signed &amp; some of the remaining UFAs get signed to low deals, you'll have maybe 4-6 teams with 4-7M in cap space, and then there will be 10+ teams looking at offloading players like Frolik to get all of their guys in.

In a vacuum, Frolik is usually worth more. But under this context this is a very fair deal. CLG drops two rounds in the draft, and in exchange they get a guy that's younger, can play a few games in the top 4, and that's under contract for an extra year. (Which in this case, could be burried in full.)

Montreal does this because that's buying early on a TDL guy, and gives them an option to move him later in the season at retained salary for a team looking to make a push or to keep him as their own rental.
