Grebenkin isn’t making the Leafs playoff roster. They’re already having troubles finding out who’s gonna be in it for game 1 because of the strong depth this year as it is. By the time Grebenkin got used to the ice size and play style in North America he’d still be behind the 8 ball because it’s playoff hockey which is a whole new level.
That being said, he’s a good prospect and the Leafs system isn’t as weak as people think.
Grebenkin, Quillan, Minten, Tverberg, and Cowan all have real good chances at being quality NHLers. Then you add in other guys like Niemela, Moldenhauer, Hildeby, Webber, Hirvonen, Chadwick, Kokkonen, and Ahktiamov who all need a bit of work but could still work out to be NHL contributors and it doesn’t look as weak as it might seem.
A lot of people hate on their system because there isn’t a high end talent in it but they don’t need that because they’re committed to Matthews, Marner, and Nylander for so long and they’re all still in their primes. Once they hit 32ish (5 more years) then it’ll be key to add a high end talent to the pool. But for now it’s just what they need - which is a bunch of low end, low risk guys
