You're crazy if you think Leonard and Zegras are in the same league. Y'all would have to include more than Z in a deal that gives you Leonard

Zegras is a back-to-back 60pt scorer on his ELC. Leonard looks awesome. He also hasn’t played a game of pro hockey yet. If you think Z is moved for anything less than a top prospect like Leonard you need to check your hometown bias at the door.

And please don’t pretend Zegras isn’t elite. You targeted him for a reason and just dropped him in as you#1C as a 22 year old. There are a handful of guys who have put up that kind of performance at this age over the past 15 years and they’re guys like Nylander, Point, Kucherov, Pettersson, etc. so yes, that costs more than mid and late first round picks to a team that has zero reason to be trading him, and if anything could use another Zegras on the right side

The Siberian Line are nonstarters at this time. Don't even bother asking unless you're putting up something insane.

How so..? Name 10 centers over the last 10 years that have put up multiple 60 point seasons before the age of 23. This isn’t a trick question, I’m pretty sure there are more than 10, but by listing out those names you’ll understand why he’s nearly untouchable for ANA

Anyone who thinks that an unsigned 19-year-old who has yet to play a minute of professional hockey in ANY league is superior to an All-Star who is one of 12 players to record two 60-point-plus seasons before age 23 doesn't know the first thing about hockey . . . which is that potential doesn't mean, or equal, performance.

Tbh I actually think this point is arguable. A year ago we all could’ve said with a decent degree of confidence that Bedard looked to be the superior hockey player compared to Zegras, for example.

The more relevant point in this case is that Leonard’s pre-NHL career isn’t so compelling that you could, with any degree of conviction, suggest that he’s a better player than Zegras. It’s a great pre-NHL resume, don’t get me wrong. But I think if in the next 3 years he had 2 60 point seasons, WAS fans would be absolutely thrilled. And Zegras has already proven that

Sure, we all would have said that. My point is that we were no more guaranteed that that would be the case than we were with Slafkovsky or LaFreniere.

What do the following players have in common? Scott Glennie, Alexander Burmistrov, Derrick Pouliot, Alex Nylander, Adam Boqvist.

They are 5 of the 10 youngsters drafted in the 8th overall slot -- Ryan Leonard's position -- from 2009 through 2018.

The homer is entitled to hope -- and even contend with all his might -- that Leonard could eventually turn out to be in "a higher league" than Z. But he then displays his utter lack of experience by conflating that projection with reality by saying that Leonard's trade value is higher right now than Zegras'. He's simply wrong.

The one point I would like to suggest to this thread is compare each players college and NDTP numbers. Not saying one is better than the other but that should give you and idea of what could be the case. nothing is guaranteed but thats the best way to compare the two.

The best way to compare Leonard to the NHL is by looking at similar producing NCAA comps, but I wouldn’t restrict that to a one-man sample. Meanwhile, there’s really no reason to compare Zegras to anyone based on NCAA performance at this point. He has 3 seasons under his belt, his NHL performance will be the best way to project the kind of player he is long term
