Don’t see anything on Boston Hockey Now. I know there was a dumb deal on the athletic that had Poitras and a second being the primary return. Don’t see them trading Poirras

I don’t understand why they would take both UFA dmen but not retain salary

Boston isn't trading Poitras for a hometown boy in Hanifin that they could more than likely sign this summer.

It's not a "reported deal" it's his guess on what it would take from talking to "people who would know".

Unless it's coming from legit NHL Insiders and sources, I wouldn't believe a thing that guy says.

Maybe flip them as well? Unless the Flames are looking to re-sign one of them.

I also don't think that CGY would have a problem retaining salary. They just want it to be worth their while.

That would be something. Save the retention spot. Take some more UFAs. Then flip Grz or Forbort back to TBL or FLA.

They've got no one left to save retention slots for. If hanifan goes it only leaves Tanev and maybe Markstrom.

Would be pretty savvy move.

Sell Hanifin to BOS for futures, take back Forbort/Grz

Flip Forbort or Grz at 50% to TBL or FLA

Sell Tanev to DAL for futures, take back Hakanpaa

Flip Hakanpaa at 50% (to someplace that isn’t dealing with DAL)

If they're getting Poitras and a 1st it's worth doing since Calgary is going to need a couple defensemen to fill Hanifin's and Tanev's spots on the roster for the rest of this season anyhow. If they retained on Hanifin they'd still need 2 replacements would have to pay them and might have to pay something to acquire them too. This would kill several birds with one stone (trade).

Calgary could probably even flip Forbert to Toronto for another pick since Bonehead Brad will likely do what he always does. Miss out on all the good rentals available because he's too cheap to pay for them and then wind up paying nearly as much for a far worse option. Maybe Grz too though that's unlikely, rental D tend to be either very good defensively (ex: Tanev) or big mean players that hit hard and can fight (ex: Chiarot).

Edit: This would also free up a couple roster spots to go after defensemen the Flames really want in the offseason... Like Chychrun who will be eligible to sign an extension after this season is over.

The Flames could be a middleman on a deal. Last year retaining 2.5M on P. Kane generated a 3rd round pick.

I could also see both Kuzmenko, and Mangiapane moving with retention at this deadline, but those deals could be done next year.

sheesh thats the most gen Z post i've ever seen.

the posted link literally provides a literal screenshot of a trade that literally is not identical. its forbort, lohrei, and a few picks. literally.

literally not worth spending another moment on this as jimmy murphy is literally as bad as both posted trades.

Why bother, when he will probably sign there during the offseason.
