I hope its Kahkonen over Allen. Chrona is getting the start tonight over Kahkonen (probably benched for trade-purposes). There are other guys I like more: Lindgren, even Driedger with some retention over Allen would be preferred.

I don't think it's that big of a pickle. A bunch of guys have contracts dropping off. Some being traded. Picks traded to add young players like they have done with Durzi, McBain, Smith.
Picks are the easiest currency to carry and trade. No cap hit involved. No emotional attachment to a selection yet. Can trade them for players or other picks. No-one ever does not want more picks.
When the reserve list gets tight they can trade picks and prospects for players or more picks.

They’re kind of the only threat for the last slot. It seems stl, Seattle, wild are either selling or chilling. I think stl welcomes the time to play Bolduc, and snuggerud if they can sign him, and see what they can expect for next season.

We liked Hanzal too; but we needed depth for this year's playoff run. I did not expect us to go in on Trenin so this is a pleasant surprise; he might be the 4C we need or allow O'Connor to move into that role. Avs fans/insiders are suspecting that there must have been an injury or two that is more serious than initially thought otherwise the pressbox will be full of good forwards that are HS

Avs are basically going with 2 elite scoring lines and 2 very good forechecking/hitting lines and a highly active defense core.

This will really help them in road matchups, where we struggled to get any production beyond the top line and have an average record.
